happy stancy week!!

day 1 – word prompt: first

first fight.

i might seem like a masochist to get excited over this scene but stancy angst is so well done, it's uncontrollable.

nancy is already on edge about her mom cornering her and the guilt of leaving barb and something possibly happening to her, so it doesn't take long for her to snap at the only available person.

and then there's steve, who's fear of his parents catching him underage drinking is clearly rooted in past experiences; "my dad's a grade A asshole." from his perspective, barb's run off but he's still there to be facing the burnt of the punishment.

but it's the wrong thing to say when nancy feels invalidated and alone in her feelings. which is why he immediately self-reflects, takes accountability and apologizes (unlike-)

then i think about how he couldn't have known that nancy wouldn't have taken that well because he was just getting to know her. she didn't know about the extent of his traumas either and how his dad would react to such a situation. none of that emotional depth had come up yet when they were only just exploring the shyness of a first love; it's so fucking unfair that it was ripped from them and never given back.
