One example I've seen is someone making a post blaming the "Chinese censorship" for why in the new extra Shen Jiu is said to be an abuser in every universe and that what MXTX *actually* wanted was for him to be complex and misunderstood but she let herself be pushed around bc China "only wants black and white villains". You don't care about censorship nor about the writer's creative freedom, you care about your headcanons not being validated. :/

And this goes in to my answer about the differences between the EN and CN fandoms: there is a palpable disdain that the EN side has for Chinese people that manifests in them just refusing to accept that mxtx writes what she does because she wants to. There has never been a place anywhere where she has said that Shen Jiu “wasn’t meant to be an abuser,” and in fact, she quite literally says in the main text through Shang Qinghua as her mouthpiece that Shen Jiu is still a scum villain and people just can’t handle 3-dimensional scum. Shen Jiu is mentioned glancingly in this extra to explain how it was a fluke to have put Shen Yuan into Shen Qingqiu. Neither svsss nor the new extra are about Shen Jiu at all! Yet because a bunch of white people in fandom think that they have rights to a work they didn’t create because the author happens to be a national of a country they’ve been raised to see as “inferior” to their own, they think that by virtue of their whiteness, they have access to some super secret innate knowledge that mxtx “must be” being personally suppressed by the evil CCP and must be saved by the trash headcanons of the most popular English-speaking fic writer they know.

It’s literally just racism that gives them the gall.
