Pls go into SQQ
Ok, so Shen Qingqiu does this weird thing where he rarely ever contemplates his sexuality as his sexuality but as an extension of Luo Binghe's sexuality. Like, when he first transmigrates, he laments not being able to have a girlfriend because he expects every available woman to eventually end up in Luo Binghe's harem, but he also doesn't... act the loss, if that makes sense? Like the "mourning" is just the equivalent of shrugging his shoulders and moving on. Skipping over the harem members who were still children at the time, Shen Qingqiu doesn't even feel a thing for his own female peers and agemates, like Qi Qingqi who we never hear about becoming a part of Luo Binghe's harem.
Then later when Luo Binghe kisses him for the first time in the dreamscape, Shen Qingqiu's first thought isn't "omg, am I gay???" He goes, "omg, Luo Binghe is gay, and it's my fault!" When he continues to let Luo Binghe kiss him, hold him, etc. his thoughts are about how he doesn't want to disappoint Luo Binghe's feelings, how he can't make himself even hit the other man, and how he's fine with it if Luo Binghe is. It's like he filters himself through Luo Binghe completely, that as long as Luo Binghe is fine with something and it doesn't harm him, Shen Qingqiu will also accept it. So he never really faces his own sexuality outside of some random glib comments, he just accepts that Luo Binghe loves him and that he'll do anything to make Luo Binghe happy.
FOUR PLS I NEED YOUR OPINION ON SOMETHING-
ahem ok so im writing a monster shen yuan au and uhhh idk whether i should make him a giant Spider Crab or just a giant spider
Second, theres a scene whr sy is suppose to not recognize a human and just picks it up and is like "wth is this? Hey, system, helloo????? A little help?" And then system tells him its a human and he js has to process that his brain lags so hard he forgot what a person looked like
Anyways i need to figure out who the "human" is and i have 4 choices, [og sqh, little mbj, og lbh, or lqg] hell it could be not a human so
Pls gib me ur wisdom.
First of all I don't think I've ever been more honoured - you're asking ME FOR ADVICE!??! ME?! Okay okay okay. This is chill. It's so chill I don't know what you're on about. I'm totally not ascending as we speak. OKAY. Anon. Hello. Let's do this. First things first, I did search up what spider crabs look like despite being terrified of spiders and was highly displeased with what I saw, but that's pretty par for the course! Anyway, I think it depends on what vibe you're going for - when I think of a spider crab Shen Yuan, I think of him rising out of the water, very much confrontational and very much willing to fight to protect his territory. Maybe there's seaweed hanging from him, there's little bits off moss growing on his shell, other little creatures crawling around on it, that kind of vibe. When I think of spider Shen Yuan (which I'm drifting towards slightly because fluyff), I think of someone wandering around in a dark, damp cave, hearing something shift in the darkness but not being able to see what. Shen Yuan is a silent killer, eyes glinting in the darkness, approaching slowly from above, gearing up to paralyse the prey. Also, fluyff. If you're going non-fluyff spider, I say spider crab, but if you're going fluyff spider, I say spider.
NOW, onto the scene you mentioned! You want Shen Yuan to have a moment of 'oh...that's a human...' after not being around humans for too long. At first, I was leaning towards Mobei-Jun for the sole reason of it being both baby Mobei-Jun content and comedy because Mobei-Jun is certainly NOT a human. HOWEVER, I was thinking about it a bit more while writing the other paragraph, and I'm now leaning towards OG Shang Qinghua because like, he's just SO normal compared to the others. Think about it - with the others, there could be a bit of 'oh yeah, SY couldn't be expected to recognise a demon to be a human.' Mobei-Jun is a demon, Luo Binghe is half-demon, Liu Qingge is....listen he may look like a human but he's fucking feral. He's like a demon who has sort of human sensibilities. I would mistake him to not be a human too. OG Shang Qinghua, however, is basically just a dude compared to these guys. It would be impossible to not to see that he's a human, and a pathetic one like that. Imagine him being picked up by the scruff of his neck. He's a rat man. Let him be mistaken for something else. It would be so funny. People barely think he's a cultivator, literally the human of all humans.
I'm dying over your SVSSS especially 'and I'm reminded of the simple life' you have taken my heart and stomped on it. I've reread it at least 2 dozen times in the last couple of months. And before that it was actually the fix that got me into svsss to begin with.(I followed you from your Naruto fics but that deserves a whole other rant)
It's incredible I adore all parts but especially the twist with you and sj's backstory the way sqh tried to save sj so hard. Even though we as readers know that the system probably took so many points away from him. Also mqf being the first one to really hug sqh the way he was so horrified over sqh blaming himself for his ribs??? I'm on the ground screaming. The sheer level of MUST PROTECT from all the other peak lords???? Yqy fully latching on to sqh as another little brother??? Mobi-jun practicing being gentle???? The way sqh is still so confused about what this going on??? The confession?????? I'm dying.
I cannot wait for a sqh chapter. I have so many questions??? What is the system doing in all this(I adore how it's just looking in the background adding to all of sqhs stress) how is it reacting?? Is the story he told yqy and sj almost the whole truth??? What prompted him to go after sj??? He needs so many hugs and I want all of them to give it to him. He should be hugged 24/7 ( I am dying for a sj hug even though I know thats probably a long way off if ever kind of thing). Also lqq is adorable I love him.
@haleingstorm thank you?!?! Tumblr totally ate this ask I can’t believe I never saw it until now!
I honestly have had so much fun with the plot of simple life. For a story that started out as a simple one shot, for it to have evolved into the 18 chapter (and counting!) monstrosity that it has become is just SUCH a trip. Amazing.
YQY’s POV was something I’d been looking forward to writing for a long time. I was super excited to actually get to that point in the story where I could finally share it and the reveal! The comments did not disappoint ☺️
It’s good to hear that so many people enjoy reading all the character interactions as much as I do writing them.
Plots of stories are all well and good, but in my humble opinion the relationships between the characters, and the characters own introspections, are a key component what makes stories so engaging.
Thanks for the ask <3 Feel free to leave as many as you like! ;D
For very important reasons I need access to your peak :)
everyone is welcome on my peak, no need to ask for permission. just tell me when you're visiting. i only advise you to be careful of the beasts in the woods. don't want you to get eaten now, do we?
Whenever people say that Shen Yuan's kindness never backfires and that's why he can be kind, I always roll my eyes. There are multiple times his kindness backfires:
1. Helping Zuzhi Lang
Probably the most well known example of his kindness backfiring. He helps a snake and gets framed for starting a plauge for it.
2. Saving Cang Qiong disciples + more
When he's in his plant body, he can't bring himself to not free the Cang Qiong disciples from Sha Hualing, which ends up getting him caught by Luo Binghe.
3. Freeing Qiu Haitang
This one is something I think gets forgotten. While saving Cang Qiong disciples and other cultivators, he also frees Qiu Haitang. This backfires by leading to his confrontation with the Old Paalce Master and her in the Holy Mausoleum.
4. Helping the Qing Jing Peak disciples
While escaping the Water Prison, Shen Yuan sees the Qing Jing disciples get into a fight with Huan Hua disciples. He decides to step in by helping from the sidelines, and this backfires because he gets "caught", so to speak.
If there are any other instances where his kindness backfires in him, please remind me!
You forgot when Shen Qingqiu:
needlessly threw himself in front of Luo Binghe to protect him from Elder Sky Hammer, which poisoned him with Without-a-Cure until basically the end of the novel.
lost points for protecting Luo Binghe from Ming Fan and co on like his first day as a transmigrator.
stayed behind at Huan Hua palace to force Luo Binghe to give up his corpse to stop his unhealthy grieving, rather than running and escaping the moment everyone was distracted with Liu Qingge’s break in.
People want kindness to be the “easy” choice so bad so that they can say that their fav villains are “brave” and “subversive” for being pieces of shit, even when said pieces of shit rarely receive consequences for their actions. Shen Jiu was a whole serial child abuser for how many years? How many of his victims received restitution for his abuse that forced them out of the sect? How long was it before he received any negative consequences for his actions? Shit, even the one time he was kind (helping Yue Qingyuan save the other slave children), he received a negative consequence from that immediately, but it takes years for even one (1) victim of his to receive vindication from his unmasking. But sure, kindness is the easy path full of rewards and endless praise lol
So, in a completely hypothetical scenario, let's say your shidi were to perhaps... trip into an artifact while dealing with an infestation and set it off. And let's say this artifact de-aged him to around the size of a four year old, but he's insisting he's seven. How would you react to your shidi ending up in that situation?
Of course, Peak Lord Shen knows this is certainly a hypothetical scenario
It is the third time shidi.
HyPoTheTicAllY, this master would feed the child all the bitter potions he could find.
Correct me if I’m wrong - it’s been a hot minute (or three years) since I read SVSSS, but isn’t SQQ’s peak supposed to be the one with a more scholarly focus? Like there is already an existing theme for his peak just like LQG has the martial peak and then there’s also the medicinal peak with MQF and SQH’s peak is the supply peak.
If that is the case, then really SY is doing a far better job taking care of his own peak and its reputation than SJ ever did.
You are correct. Each peak has a theme, and Qing Jing Peak's theme is the scholarly arts:
Shen Qingqiu’s Qing Jing Peak wasn’t the tallest, but it was the most tranquil, heavily forested with tall bamboo. On top of that, as basically all of Shen Qingqiu’s disciples needed to learn the four scholarly arts of guqin playing, Go, calligraphy, and painting, from time to time the clear sounds of reading and the murmur of the guqin would drift on the breeze. It was an excellent destination for scholarly youths, steeped in ancient arts and literature, and perfectly aligned with the needs of the original Shen Qingqiu—that poser.
—Vol. 1, Chapt. 1: Scum, 7seas
Though Shang Qinghua, specifically, considers the peak "ruined" for the fact that the disciples are now excitable and happy vs. the miserable assholes putting on airs that they were under Shen Jiu:
[Shang Qinghua] remembered the last time he’d come, every disciple had worn a face full of great bitterness and deep resentment. They’d stood like pines or sat like clocks, each with an old text in hand, reciting wherever they went like they were chanting curses, quoting chapter and verse when they spoke, a musical cadence to their voices. When he looked at them today... Was this still that renowned Qing Jing Peak that produced countless poser youths full of literary airs? This place had become a daycare center for ADHD children.
