IMDB dropped a first look to the series as preview of "Shows To Watch This Summer"

"STANDING BY" imagines what happens with the Angels meant to guide us from above are just as flawed, cynical and prone to drama as the humans they’re stuck with. Expect soul-searching, sarcasm, and a fair amount of divine dysfunction.

David joins a brilliant voice cast including series co-creator Dan Levy, Glenn Close, Samira Wiley, and more who will be revealed in a few weeks.

The series is created by comedian Dan Levy and Ally Pankiw (Netflix "Black Mirror: Joan is Awful") in association with 20th Television Animation, Bento Box Entertainment serves as animation services studio

Schitt’s Creek co-creator, executive producer and star Dan Levy is getting animated for a follow-up to his Emmy-winning series. Hulu has ordered a presentation for Standing By, an animated comedy from Levy, writer-director Ally Pankiw and 20th Television Animation. Levy also will voice one of the lead characters in the project, which falls under Levy’s overall deal with ABC Signature. (Both ABC Signature and 20th Television Animation are units of Disney Television Studios.)

Written/executive produced by Levy and Pankiw, Standing By is a satirical look into the lives of a group of eternally bound, disgruntled guardian angels and the lessons they’ll eventually learn from not only the dysfunctional humans they’re in charge of protecting, but also each other.

Levy will voice Carey, the newly deceased, cynical spotter to the group who had a lonely, isolated life in New York City.

Eugene: Even the films you did in film school had a real funny bent to them, like quirky humorous things.

LA Times: What were they about?

Dan: There was a short I wrote about a guardian angel that was sent to Earth to protect a guy that just lived a really boring life, and eventually the guardianship got a bit boring; and he turned a blind eye for one minute, and the guy slips into a coma. They were all sort of dark and weird. But again, I was in the program because I didn’t want to audition for theater.
