Self-Insert Week: 7/10 (Welcome To Night Vale)

Self-Insert Week is over for the year but I’m still catching up!! 

Self-Insert: Star Echo

Described In Three Words: Inhuman, timeless, peaceful

Trait They Share Most With Me: This self-insert is more of a fantasy self than a true self-insert: we don’t share very much. That said, we both understand the world through the people we love: Earth seems small and insignificant, but the people around us are infinite and precious. These facts are held in balance. 

How They’re Different From Me: They don’t have my mood-swings! Their emotions move very slowly, and are often much deeper than my little flashes of happiness and sadness. They also need less input, and are genuinely content to just sit and shine quietly, whereas I need constant media input to avoid feeling antsy. 

Do They Change The Canon Plot?: A little bit! I usually focus on the pre-canon for Cecil and I, since I feel that his pre-radio years are both intriguing and under-explored, and I wouldn’t change the central points of the show (Cecil and Carlos’s relationship, for example), but I do influence different events, like the discovery of the Desert Otherworld. 

Fun Fact: I find a lot of comfort in having non-human self-inserts. Being human is a lot of work, and sometimes it feels unnatural to me, so it’s nice to have fantasies where I can take a break from that whole situation and just curl up on Cecil’s shoulder with no responsibilities.

Hmmmm that’s a fun question! I love Cecil’s enthusiasm, of course. He throws himself heart-first into relationships and interests and random animals he met on the street. He’s just an unstoppable force when he decides that he likes something.

I suppose (as my self-insert) I love that he’s important. Because I’m bound to him, and that means I’m doing something important. The Voice of Night Vale isn’t a position just anyone could fill! My Cecil is special and I love him for that.

Everything in Night Vale changes without warning, and I think that Cecil loves that I’m not like the rest of the town. I’m a star, I change very slowly. That helps to ground him.

I’m also very interested in everything and Cecil appreciates that! I love meeting new people and seeing new buildings and learning and looking at things he’s made and shows he likes. As long as I’m nice and close to Cecil, of course! I wouldn’t want to wander too far from my Wisher.
