𝘈𝘙𝘙𝘐𝘝𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘛𝘖 a new place meant new beginnings , and they were some of what nessarose was looking forward to most about shiz university . she would be in a place where most were unfamiliar with her and her family ( the amount of munchkinlander students typically was quite low ) , and she could create an image of herself for the world instead of it being shrouded in the oddities of her sister .
of course , elphaba had made a scene from the very start when people predictably were put off by her complexion . luckily , she had her father to hide behind -- and the hope that people wouldn’t judge her too quickly based on elphaba’s actions .
things worsened at a quickening pace , as their plans began to fall apart right in front of them ; the arrangement for them to share a room , the overly unkind taunting of a certain blonde student , and the idea of the head that nessarose would be better suited somewhere else .
yet , she cannot help but cringe as her sister speaks up against what’s happening . nessa , it seems , had already learned the lesson that some things were destined to be out of one’s control , especially in such an esteemed school . regardless of the shame she was already feeling from her sister’s barking , her composure remained in tact ; here , her image mattered and no longer were they children who could have their actions written off .
❛ LET HER GO -- ❜ is the last thing that she hears before realizing that the worst has happened , and that elphaba has allowed the secret to slip . with that , all eyes of the student body are on her , though the attention is short lived as they begin to realize that the source of the chaos is in fact the most obvious thing in the courtyard .
elphaba had promised , just seconds before arriving on the grounds ( before she ran ahead to get a look of the place ) that things would be different . she had said so genuinely , to both nessarose and their father , that no matter the circumstances she would keep her outbursts under wraps .
❛ elphaba , you promised things would be different here ! ❜ nessa nearly shouts at her sister , before sinking down into the shoe box that still sits on her lap . as elphaba reaches for her hand , she only begrudgingly allows the girl to take it before finally giving her a disappointed look .
the secret was out , and there was no turning back from here -- and it didn’t seem to have swayed the head’s decision of rooming either .
