The thought of Starline stealing little Clip has been eating my brain
Shadow growled, low and deep in his throat at the sight in front of him. "Stop manipulating him and let him go."
The platypus only raised an eyebrow, glancing down at the small darkling currently attached to his leg. "It's not manipulation if this is what he wants. But we'll do this your way." He tore off the glove on his right hand and tossed it away, then reached down and plucked the child off his leg, dropping Eclipse a few steps in front of him. "Let him decide who he wants to go with."
Grimacing, Shadow stared glumly at the small version of his brother. The one he had such a frayed, complicated relationship with, who had died and then brought back as a child.
Except Starline had gotten to him. And Shadow had to rescue him.
"Eclipse, come here," Shadow said. "Come to me, I'm your big brother."
Small golden eyes stared at him.
"Come here," he repeated.
The little darkling swallowed. "You... you hurt me."
"You hurt me!" Eclipse repeated and then scurried back to Starline, wrapped both arms around his leg.
For his part, Starline smiled, a devious wicked grin as he gazed in triumph at Shadow, one hand resting on Eclipse's head. "He made his choice."
All Shadow wanted was to kick that platypus' ass, snatch up his little brother and teleport out of there, but he didn't know if that would actually help. What words Starline had been whispering to Eclipse, telling him how cruel and evil his brother was.
He could do it. But then it would only confirm in Eclipse's mind the kind of person he was.
Slowly, Shadow looked up into the doctor's eyes. And saw in that cruel smile, how cleverly he had been defeated.
