“Darcy, love, you’re gonna be late for shift. Is something wrong?”
Brock saw his wife slumped on their bed, still just half dressed, looking despondent.
“I can’t fit in any of my clothes, I feel like a whale, and I’m gonna be pregnant forever!” Darcy wailed, sniffling and wiping her eyes. She was seven months along and though most days she got along fine, some days were a struggle.
Brock sat down beside her and wrapped his despondent wife in his arms. Hormones were a bitch and he’d learned months ago how to respond when she was in this mood.
“First off, you are a beautiful mama who’s growing a little human in you. In no way does that mean you resemble a whale,” he told her. “Second, we can order you new maternity shirts from the quartermaster. Thirdly, we’re passing through the nebula you’ve been raving about and I know you’re not gonna want to miss that.”
She smiled weakly. “You’re right. I’m still gonna be glad when this is all over.”
Brock kissed her forehead, then helped her finish dressing and get her shoes on, brushing a kiss over her belly on his way back up.
“I heard a tip from Barnes that the Enterprise Crew is going to be on the Yorktown when we’re there.”
Darcy suddenly perked up at this tidbit he’d just dropped.
“Yep,” Brock grinned. “Maybe you can get Kirk’s autograph or meet that famously grumpy doc the ensigns are always fawning over.”
“I doubt I’ll have the energy to go anywhere, but that’s a nice thought,” Darcy said, smoothing out her science blue maternity top and checking herself carefully in the mirror.
“Just don’t think TOO long about it,” Brock told her. “I’m the main grump in your life.”
This got her to chuckle and lean up for a kiss.
“That’s right, hot stuff,” she told him affectionately. “No other grumps for me.”
