(1/3) Okay I’ve seen a lot of questions about IB and how the point system works and I thought as a former student board member for IB at my school I’d help you guys out with the point system (and just IB in general): Basically you have to take 6 classes: English, History, Math, Science, Language and Elective. Generally, three of those will be your HL classes (higher level = 2 Year courses) and three will be your SL (Standard level = 1 year courses).
(2/3) You can take more HL's than that but 3 is minimum. Each class is worth 7 points these are determined by some sort of written assessment (Internal Assessment (IA), External Assessment (EA) both of which are generally 1500-2000 words), as well as your actual exams (usually 2 per class). Aside from these courses, you will also have to write a 4000 word essay on a subject of your choice called the Extended Essay (EE) and take a class known as Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
(3/3) these are like bonus points and there is a point matrix online that will show you what score you need to get on each part to get the 3 bonus points. (e.g. A on EE and A in TOK = 3 points, A on EE and B in TOK (or vice versa) = 3 points, B on EE and B in TOK = 2 points, and so on). So with all of that you get 6x7 = 42 + upto 3 bonus points for a grand total of 45!! (:
