Star Rose Quartz is a stable fusion made a small trio of rebels that fell in love near the end of Era 2. She’s formed by a Star Golden Rutile, a Star Pink Jade and a Star Hessonite.
History:
Being Rutile on of Hessonite’s pilots on a mission to transport Jade to the Anhydrite Colony, they ended up lost in the vast of space, situation that gave them time to familiarize and eventually fall in love. This are them now btw!:
At some point, when they got the opportunity to go back to their jobs, they decided to stay together and instead decided to explore more of the space that after all, with all it’s infinity, bonded them.
Personality:
SRQ is quite serene and calm, tho she loves to dance and sing all the time. She has a certain interest in studying silicon-based life forms, found on the Solar System her components first landed on when they got lost.
Powers:
Her powers are mostly light-based. When she uses them, her hands earrings start to glow and sparkle, the star on her hair glows, her scleras turn dark and her eyes display a six-pointed star shape, similar to the ones on her gems. She then is capable to manipulate the light around her, in a similar way to White Diamond (tho she may not hurt other beings, contrary to the dictator). Here’s a close of her face, powers inactive and active respectively:
Hope the entry get’s in. I wasn’t able to finish it any earlier haha. In any case, hope ya like it uvu
i really like gem OC actually... Usually I’m so suck in design I just prefer to admire from the side, but not today. so here is my piece on the @ice-fyre star gem contest
Star Phoenix Lapis Lazuli, dang what a fancy name. she might be a bit MarySue-ish, but who's gonna stop me huh
story under the cut. sorry for bad English
I know, this is probably way too much info to the design contest, but for some reason I put a thoughts into it and not going to throw it away. and I don’t know how to talk short and succinctly. sorry
I heard quite a lot that Phoenix Lapis isn’t really Lapis, but also didn’t find what it really is. but I took it as a starting point.
all Phoenixes were created artificially as an experiment to create new gems with new abilities (mainly sponsored by Yellow Diamond). all of them were grown in the lab and are currently being monitored at a research center in space. there was a lot of unsuccessful experiments before (some of them are still stored separately from the "successful" samples), but in the end scientists managed to create several full-fledged gems. All Phoenixes can use pyromancy of varying strength, but one of them is several steps ahead. Star Phoenix has a truly unique deviation (obviously, a star), which has made her several times stronger than others or even expectations. her pyromancy is so strong that she can control... stars. This is her main work atm: by the Homeworld order, she helps to tear and harvest the stars, producing a huge amount of energy for the empire.
But such a huge power has its price. Star Phoenix suffers from serious mental problems caused by her defects. the thing is, all Phoenixes actually are cluster fusions, just very high quality ones. Their owners (Phoenixes are the lab’s property) also don’t reveal more information than they think is necessary. so Phoenixes aren’t even aware of it, since their two halves are perfectly melted into one full-fledged person. They are stable. This is true for all samples recognized as "successful", except for Star Phoenix. Like some unsuccessful samples, her half isn’t aligned well enough. This explains extreme duality of her appearance and personality. None of her half has self-awareness, but she also doesn't feel like a complete person. Not being aware of her true nature, she just doesn't understand what or who she is. Her personality is fragmented and she suffers from severe depersonalization attack. It also makes her very easy to poof, but it’s the lesser of problems.
most of the time Star Phoenix is an awkward, calm and even submissive person. she obeys orders and looks harmless, as if you can do anything with her. she is benevolent and a little naive. but if you trigger her somehow, her personality will quickly change. so much that it even affects her palette, the blues reduse almost to gray, and the red becomes dominant and very saturated. In this state, she’s completely uncontrollable, has no restrictions or a sense of self-preservation, and is extremely aggressive to everything that causes her pain and discomfort. usually triggers are overloading emotions, harm and depersonalization attack (during it she basically unintentionally hurts herself mentally).
Considering that she is an incredibly strong and dangerous gem, this makes her a ticking bomb. But since the empire highly values her unique abilities, Homeworld just has to deal with her shit, and therefore Star Phoenix is under total control. For some time after the emergence, she was kept together with others under normal conditions, but when she first lost control (her friend/roommate was taken away after she was found to be defective; they didn’t even spend that much time together, but it was enough), Star Phoenix almost made a local apocalypse, but was poofed. Since then, she has been kept under special supervision.
The collar and handcuffs on her are physical. the collar is heavy and weighs on her gem, and also through it Phoenix can at any moment get a hard electric shock, which completely paralyzes her. If it gets too far, she can even get poofed. Handcuffs also can be magnetically latched at any time. She is under surveillance all the time at the harvest work or in the center, so if something goes wrong, the guards will always be able to neutralize her. Also, the position of the research center in space allows to, if needed, place her in a vacuum or at least doesn’t give access to the free atmosphere, which also neutralizes some of her abilities.
currently she's really sick of being treated as an extraordinary object. She'd rather be anyone else, since mental proplems bothers her very much and she has nowhere to get help. her “special” status also isolated her from other Phoenixes and destroyed the friendship she might have. but despite the gradually increasing stress, she can’t do anything about her situation. but maybe one day she will break free. who knows
little facts:
Headcanon, that common Lapis' are cold, but the Phoenix is always very warm to touch
She’s afraid of electricity and lightning. wonder why
She has six wings (personal trait), and can kick your ass with six fire arms
also she leaves a long fire trace like a comet if she flies very fast
Her other side isn’t exactly dark. Rather, overloading emotions take control over her. partly this is why she loses almost all empathy, and only the closest people could get through to her. This is a different angle of perception, as if Star Phoenix sees the world through a supersaturated prism. It doesn't even have to be bad emotions. But her life is quite stressful, so everyone (including herself) is sure that a monster lives inside her.
Some of the unsuccessful “early” phoenixes are still stored separately at the research station. Waiting for the perfect moment to become a reference to "alien: resurrection" scene, huh
she would really be fascinated by human culture, or just any other, different from hers. she is quite curious
she actually has time, free from work, because the equipment for collecting and storing stellar energy is quite specific and limited. She spends this time at the research station, still under total supervision
My entry for @ice-fyre 's Stargem Contest. The top picture is drawn by me and the bottom is drawn by @boringartist (thank you so much btw)
Stella is a off color lapis, due to her Asterism. She was cast out as soon as she emerged. With her power she can melt into the darkness and teleport through the shadows.
Star Labradorite’s a perma-fusion of a star moonstone & star sunstone. She has impressive ice and fire powers, that would be stronger if she would actually use them. But she a pacifist who would rather run than fight, so she hasn’t had to use those abilities too often yet.
And here we have Star Emerald! She’s extremely powerful, both being a fusion of a Lapis and a Jasper, but ALSO being star gems! Em (for short) is very bubbly and fun and a little clingy but she means well! She was a former Crystal gem who later had a “disagreement” with Rose. She eventually decided to stay away from the battles for a while until, she was hit with the corruption attack from the Diamonds, causing her to be corrupted.
She’s an entry for @ice-fyre ‘s star gem contest! I honestly had so much fun designing her and coming up with a fun story for her!
oof i only recently started drawing again so hopefully i’m not too rusty! anyway,,,
Design Notes
I thought it would be funny to do a MOONstone for a STAR gem bc,, space (it made sense when i thought of it)
Heavily inspired by Sailor Moon designs bc moon
I wanted to stick with a sorta galaxy themed palette?
Based off of this star moonstone:
Backstory/Character Notes
Star Moonstone has the same build as a Pearl/Lapis type, but is slightly taller although not quite as tall as a Jasper
Star Moonstone served as sort of a Priestess type but instead of worshiping a God her job was to make sure the other gems remained loyal to the Diamonds
Her staff is mostly for decoration but she could probably use it for a fighting staff if absolutely necessary
She’s lived a very comfortable life but has always dreamed of traveling through space
Closeups
Progress Gif
Hopefully I didn’t go too overboard with this ^^;;
my star geode cluster for @ice-fyre‘s star gem contest!
this sweetheart was part of homeworld’s experiments with shards and forced fusion, except this time they used only shattered star gems as the components. she’s an anxious wreck, but much more stable personality wise than the other experiments. however, she is extremely physically fragile, so she was poofed and bubbled for later experiments.
A break from Pearl's for my first 'Diamond' fangem, a Synthetic Star Diamond for the star gem contest of ice-fyre.
Power: Tendrils that come from her gem and take control over poofed gems own powers, requires her to wear them as 'jewelry', as long as she wears them they cannot reform but they are concious/aware. She can use up to three gems powers at a time.
Backstory: a cubic zirconia that was dislodged from her original injection point by an earthquake and fell into a much deeper part of the earths crust, where she absorbed bits of actual diamond in the extreme pressure she developed in. An overcooked gem, with only partially actual gem material she emerged nearly a thousand years late to an almost empty Kindergarten and a terrified peridot, who she was forced to poof before the alarm could be raised. Taking the poofed gem in her fear and with the peridots words 'synthetic' and 'unnatural' running through her mind Star "Diamond" fled into the chasm left by the earthquake that caused her creation to hide.
While in hiding she discovered that her power allowed her to tap into the gem she had poofed, giving her access to the peridots memories and own powers as long as she was in contact with the gem. Thusly armed with all the knowledge of a seasoned kindergartner including the strengths and weaknesses of the various gem cuts she left her place of refuge in search of some of the other 'unnatural' and 'defective' gems that the peridots memories had shown her.
Her first encounter with the gems she searched for was a private execution. The gems on trial were charged with fusion, and using the peridots power Star managed to rescue the pair and poof an agate that she added to herself the same way as the peridot.
Fusion fascinates the 'diamond', but due to perhaps her mostly synthetic gem or even the number of poofed but aware gems she links herself to, she is unable to fuse and this grieves her. Her current mission is to collect as many gems as she needs for her 'necklace' and to rescue other defectives.
Design notes: Going for a Ball joint Doll asthetic to fit the fact that she isnt technically a real gem, the top of her head would hit about Blue Diamonds upper arm.
