@starlabson liked for a harleen quinzel starter:
Meta humans were fascinating. Biologically, emotionally, mentally. It was a whole new subset of the human genome, and with it came a whole new host of issues.
People were coming to her with PTSD from meta human attacks, she was getting called to Iron Heights, trying to help understand the motives behind these once normal citizens, that suddenly became super villains.
It wasn’t rocket science.
“Honestly counselor,” Harleen sat on the witness stand, listed as an expert in the trial of one of the latest of those to shake the city’s safety, “You’re looking for a simple one word answer for a very complex problem. Mister Monteleone has been in and out of juvie, and prison most of his life. In foster care, neglected, and ignored, he felt the city failed him, so the moment he gained the power to change his life, why take the hard route? The human mind is hard wired to look for the path of least resistance, the way out that was easiest. And for Mister Monteleone, that was to put his mind into inanimate objects to bring them to life. He brought his riches to him.” she adjusted her glasses, addressing the court, “Illegal, morally suspect? Yes. But not unexpected. We are the sum of our parts, and in my expert opinion, if given the chance, any person failed by the system will use power given to them to benefit themselves first, and it is our duty to rehabilitate them, not to lock them up, with no regard for what they need, and deserve.”
Perhaps it wasn’t the testimony the Prosecution was expecting, but it was the one she would always give. There were no villains, no heroes. Just people on a sliding scale of privilege.
