I can ask about auditing. Doing anything unofficially that they would kick me out for doing officially is extremely risky and ill-advised. Not only could they pull my benefits (for life!), but they could then take me to court for everything they’ve given me since I started lying about it or hiding it, AND they could yank my Medicaid, which pays for, like, my medical care. That’s a level of fucked I have never experienced and do not intend to experience!

Which aspects are less strict?
Most notably there are more leniencies available for someone who will have trouble fasting (obviously if fasting is a pikuach nefesh situation a person wouldn’t fast even when Tisha B’Av isn’t nidche, but for people who have less severe difficulties there is more room to be lenient).
The last meal before the fast (which happens towards the end of Shabbos) is a normal meal instead of the standard, more subdued separation meal.
Some of the restrictions that normally apply until midday the day after the fast end when the fast ends (except drinking wine that isn’t from havdalah, and eating meat).
