IT’S  NOT  OFTEN  HE  STRIKES  UP  A  CONVERSATION  with  a  stranger  ,  but  maybe  these  are  extenuating  circumstances  .  maybe  it’s  the  crisp  moonlight  ,  the  cool  air  ,  the  faint  breeze  ,  or  the  laughter  coming  from  other  groups  seated  outside  that  cause  sebastian  to  take  action  .  the  two  of  them  are  at  tables  out  on  this  nice  restaurant  patio  . . .  but  seated  alone  ,  the  chairs  across  from  them  sitting  empty  and  distraught  .  was  she  stood  up  like  he  was  ?  it’s  become  VERY  APPARENT  that  his  date  is  a  no-show  . . .  but  perhaps  there’s  still  time  to  salvage  this  soul-crushing  evening  .  ❝  we  don’t  necessarily  have  to  jump  right  into  being  FRIENDS  ,  ❞  he  reasons  as  he  leans  against  the  back  of  his  metal  chair  ,  peering  over  at  the  woman  with  kind  eyes  and  sincere  interest  .  ❝  the  least  we  could  do  is  ensure  neither  of  us  are  eating  alone  ?  would  you  like  to  come  join  me  at  my  table  ?  ❞  he  gestures  to  the  open  seat  .  ❝  pretty  sure  i’ve  been  stood  up  ,  so  i’m  not  necessarily  eager  for  new  friends  ,  either  .  MAYBE  JUST  SOMEONE  TO  TALK  TO  OVER  DINNER  .  i’m  sebastian  ,  ❞  he  adds  with  an  outgoing  smile  .  ❝  it’s  nice  to  meet  you  under  these  circumstances  .  ❞

perhaps   it   was   the   lack   of   focus   that   caused   matt   to   step   out,   disregarding   the   lights   and   sounds,   into   the   cross   walk.   new   york   wasn't   know   for   being   the   most   pedestrian   friendly,   but   for   the   most   part,   he   was   cautious.   head   turned   at   the   sound   of   a   horn   honking,   blaring   in   his   ears.   a   foot   stepped   back,   preparing   to   get   out   of   the   way,   but   he   felt   a   hand   grab   his   upper   harm   and   pull   him   back.   the   touch   was   gentle   but   forceful   enough   to   physically   move   him.

despite   being   pulled   back,   he   stumbled   slightly   over   the   curb   before   pulling   himself   from   the   other's   grip.   his   free   hand   smoothed   out   his   suit   jacket   before   readjusting   his   glasses.   he   was   grateful   for   the   save   despite   knowing   he   could   have   gotten   out   of   the   way,   BUT   he   was   in   the   public   eye,   dressed   as   matt   murdock,   not   daredevil.

he   turned   heel   slightly,   facing   in   the   direction   of   his   saviour.   there   was   a   nod   and   a   smile   that   presented   itself   to   @starlighttm​.   ❛   thanks.   i   was   a   little   preoccupied   there.   normally   i   am   a   lot   more   cautious.   ❜

“   do   you   ever   wish   things   were   different?   ”

a   single   hand   gripped   the   handle   of   his   cane,   eyes   staring   at   nothing   from   behind   his   glasses   but   he   seemed   to   be   staring   right   at   @starlighttm​.   there   was   silence   as   he   mulled   the   question   over.   everyday,   he   thought,   but   then   there   wouldn't   be   ME.

there   was   a   deep   inhale   followed   by   a   lighter   exhale   as   he   debated   his   answer.   he   would   be   a   liar   if   he   said   no,   but   he   wouldn't   really   be   telling   the   truth   if   he   said   yes   either.   it   was   a   complicated   question.   ❛   no   and   yes.   there   are   bits   and   pieces   that   i   wish   were   different,   but   i   am   not   god.   i   do   not   have   the   power   to   change   any   of   that.   what   happened,   happened.   no   matter   my   present   thoughts   on   the   matter.   ❜
