Count the Stars
Lay back, begin to point, the night sky above you as a blanket you marvel at such a wonder. So many, they are so many, seeming so close and yet in truth they are so far. Can you count them all, I dare you to start.
You reach one hundred yet you've not even touched one section of the sky. Try to keep straight what you've already done as they sail on by. Reach two hundred and still going strong. Your arm starts to get tired from pointing up to long.
Don't stop, can't take a break, don't blink you may miss one or a dozen. Keep shouting out numbers as if your life was at stake. Get to five hundred and your voice loses volume, your eyes tire of trying to stay focused. Yet you continue, determined to reach your goal.
Soon you reach one thousand and know you just can't go on due to constantly losing your place. They're just to many, you know you caught the bright ones but not even noticed those that were faint. The heavens just to full for mere counting, as the mind begins to quake.
Accept that this may never be done, a tally of the cosmos is a great thing. So desire now just to sit back relax and let the universe keep score while you keep dreaming...
