It took him a moment to realize that the sound of water hadn't changed. Jill had gotten up a while ago to warm up the shower, cracking open an eye he could see the steam seeping around the cracked door. Definitely hot enough, but the drops were hitting directly on the tub floor. A quick sniff proved fruitless, no coffee, no mint so she hadn't brushed her teeth either.
Not good, but the feeling of unease was little more than a buzz in the back of his mind. The usual hum that consistently kept him ready to swing at a moment's notice, to leap into action no matter the cost. All that sounded great, stretching and feeling things shift and pop before collapsing with a low groan.
'Jill?'
Up, get up, half clawing at the bedding, he managed to brace his weight on the nightstand and lever himself upright. Body still aching from the blows a panicking Jill had rained on him until he'd managed to soothe her back to sleep. Slouching his way to the bathroom door, he shouldered the door only for it to stop part of the way.
Oh...
Carefully pushing until she shifted out of the way, Chris reached out for the dry toothbrush and the toothpaste that was partially emptied down the sink. Shopping tomorrow then, kicking the door closed behind him as he carefully wrapped an arm around her waist to pull her close.
'Think the water's magma by now, Valentine.'
@rcliicta's jill has been invited to the garden...
