I'm always interested in this. And then with Weekes saying the Tevene moved into remaining elvhen cities and chipped ears off statues and took over, so I'm curious to what parts of Tevene architecture/etc are directly Elvhen-based/influenced.

hashtag I love talking about this shit, but anyay if I had to make a wild guess from what little we see in the games (and also without going into in-depth meta)... the gothic side of things might be a direct influence of elvhenan? Places like Suledin Keep, the ruins in Trespasser, they all share a fondness for pointed arches, flying buttresses, and other shapes that make me think of early gothic architecture, even if it isn’t a 1:1 kind of correlation. 

like purely visually speaking I can see the realationship there, buut tbh all my wild speculation is kind of impaired by the fact that DA:I especially makes the mistake of... reusing assets. And in some cases there are things/places that probably belong to entirely different time periods in the history of Tevinter (or Elvhenan), and were likely built under different cultural tastes, but they still look alike. So I'm kinda building this over a foundation that doesn’t feel too accurate. Still, when places weren’t directly occupied by Tevinter humans, my best bet on elvhen influence is the gothic stuff.

In another one of his nameless gatherings of Those Devout, Those Adorned, and Those Just Plain Bored, Roland hast bundled up for the cold, even as the group and He, indeed, have chosen to walk in two rows, an upended Gathering, through the forever-Fall lands of Riften and those Beyond. His expression is bored, harrowed, and darkly insomnia-lined; he gives a great, cracking yawn, and stops in his tracks.

The group of six to seven people keep moving, shortly leaving him behind, and he isn’t worried. He’ll catch up when he wants, for he knows the destination, and the Gods and Goddesses and Those Across with give him leave. He clasps the neck of his robes, blinks tiredly, and starts to walk in another direction, in hopeful strides.

Solas was almost bored. He had spent most of the night either refusing dances or making small talk with spirits or other guests. Before coming into his title, and joining the ranks of the pantheon, he would enjoy these events far more. He took pleasure out of being just another of the the inconspicuous slaves that could walk about mostly ignored. It was an entirely different world, and he reveled in collecting all of the secrets people would so freely share when they thought no one was listening.

But now, on this side of the curtain, everything was rehearsed. Every outfit, every subtle change in expression, every detail was premeditated. No one would dare let slip anything genuine in his presence, and that dragged every moment into years. 

He was plotting his escape when he caught Arlu’vunen from his peripheral. Immediately he brightened, though the change was subtle. Standing up straighter, he flipped his cape behind him and took an unapologetically direct path across the dance floor to them. 

“Even in shadows, you are the brightest thing in this room.”

Bad Assassin Zevran headcanons continue to disappoint me even though I thought I’d be immune to them by now. Zevran couldn’t have gotten to where he is without being Exceptional and…yeah just. Very nicely worded on your part.

2) Zevran tells the story of an assassination of Antivan monarchy and how he fell out a window

Firstly, it should be obvious that the player character has plot armor. (Although the Zevran fight is freaking difficult if you’re not prepared for it, but that’s neither here nor there) Then, the revelation that Zevran was trying to lose, although I don’t believe he reveals that unless you romance him. (I’ve never not romanced Zevran lmao so I wouldn’t know)

Secondly, yeah, that’s a funny story, but taking that one detail and magnifying it until that’s all that character is isn’t good writing. Then again, I would never accuse tumblr of understanding nuance. 

And then you realize that the punishment for failure in the Crows is death, and Zevran has been doing the Crow thing for 18 years before fleeing to Ferelden...yeah. He knows what he’s doing. 

If that’s not evident in how he’s thusfar taken out at least two Crow masters, then I don’t know what to tell them.
