TAU Startup Conference Part 1: Cannot Fail
A good friend, Carmel, is the International Dept Director at the Tel Aviv University StarTAU Entrepreneurship Center- and she told me about this 'TAU Innovation Day'.
Over 40 brand new startups set up a fair
to showcase their product,
bounce off ideas,
compete in a Startup challenge to win $$ to kickstart their business, and last but not least,
to listen to leaders in the field.
Check out my instagram #100happydays story from the Innovation Day here (opens new window).
I have many mental and literal notes from the conference, with the "Cannot Fail" policy from Giora Kaplan, Co-founder and CTO @ Wix.
He explained that a good way to maintain focus is to create a list of things that "cannot fail", that are so crucial that if you don't keep them going, the work will fail. Thus, if you have a great project that can really increase the value of your company, you don't forget about the crucial things and distract yourself with 'new' and 'exciting' things while forgetting to do the vital tasks. You prioritize them with this simple method - cannot fail.
Today, I started my new notebook from Wix with this list, "cannot fail" and "errands/cool projects". I think I am able to breathe better in between all the things I need to complete before the end of May.
I will write more on the tips and the tricks and most importantly the interesting analyses about the field shortly.
For the record, I am looking for a Sales/Marketing/Communications/Account managing position at a startup company that believes in their product. I am not afraid of numbers ("are you analytical, is the way they ask about this) and I am awesome at what I do! Reach me via my email at the Contact form linked above.
[Microsoft Visit] StarTAU students visited Microsoft, and Business Development Manager, Raya Volinsky explained us about "Surface".

[Star TAU] LinkedIn session! Networking is important because business is done by people. Amos gave me advice on my LinkedIn profile, there's more way to go till I have 500 connections! Gallery of Life, www.cubbying.com
My International Business Week in TLV
About two weeks ago, I participated in the first “International Business Week” (IBW) as part of StarTAU (Tel Aviv University Entreprenuership Center) initiative to introduce Israel in general and the Hi-Tech Startup scene in particular to Israelis and foreign business students\entrepreneurs. Foreign students and entrepreneurs came from all over the world : US, Italy, India, Russia, Germany, Spain, Japan and spent the week along side Israeli entrepreneurs - all of them are studying business administration and have their dreams of starting initiatives. A typical day started from an early morning networking breakfast, passing through very interesting company lectures, young and grownup experiences inspiring entrepreneurs, tours of Israel, debating and forums, and in the end of each day - enjoying in a bar and turning business into pleasure. Part of the great lectures and visits were by big companies (Microsoft lead by Gilad Steinberger, Marvell, IBM, Google lead by Eyal Miller) mainly focusing on Start-ups support, partnership and acquisition, alongside with start-ups (Klarna lecture by Yuval Samet, Soluto lecture by Ishay Green(CTO, Founder), AnyClip by Maor Gillerman, Tic-tac-ti, Earnix by David Shapiro) and other aspects of the industry such as legal patents aspects and partners agreements (Eran Ben-Dor, Lawyer).
My favorite visit was to Jerusalem - there we were at a VC, JVP media quarters, which explained in details the “Behind the Scenes” of the ventures industry, methods of presenting an idea, raising money techniques and considerations JVP has when approaching a new initiative. JVP established a campus which hosts startups that JVP funds, and you get the feelings you’re inside a fascinating labs which design the next best things that can make a difference. There are many tips that were given by all lecturers that can be useful for for starting entrepreneurs and those are my top 6 out of them:
The most important key to success is to surround yourself with good people, a core winning team.
Being passionate about your product, believe in it and have a vision
Dont do it for the partnership, Do it for the customer (David Shapiro, CEO)
“Billions of people in the internet are waiting for your stuff” (Ishay Green, Soluto CEO, Founder)
Integrity - understanding your strengths and weaknesses (Ishay Green, Soluto CEO, Founder)
Stay in your domain of expertise
Though in the end of the week I had fever and missed part of the time, it has been a productive, enjoyable week - and StarTau managed to give a glimpse to the Hitech Industry of “Startup Nation”,and I got to know great people from all over the world and hopefully we will stay in touch and maybe collaborate in the future. Thanks to StarTau for launching this great international initiative!
