The Koraimon Starter Quartet Types Explained

In this post I will explain my type quartet (yes a type quartet not a trio) of my starter types of Koraimon, which unlike Pokémon with its Starter Type trios which those 4 types are Fire, Water, Plant, and Arachnid (the replacement of the Bug Type in Pokémon) first let’s talk about the first type.

Fire: The Fire type is just like the Fire type in Pokémon but without the resistance to the Plant Type, I’ll explain it when I get to the Plant Type, but nothing has changed between Pokémon’s Fire type and Koraimon’s Fire type. Water: Nothing has changed other than a few new resistances. Plant: Ok the Plant type is now neutral to Fire due to some plants being resistant to fires and some aren’t resistant. Arachnid: This has resistance to Plant but is weak to Fire along with a few other resistances and weaknesses

Fire Starter Typing

Based on your responses, it looks like the support for and against the Fire/Flying typing for the first stages of the Fire Starter was almost equivocal, albeit with slightly more support for the change. Based on this, I've decided to have Fire/Flying as an option, but not as a strict requirement. This means the Fire Starter can still be a pure Fire-type if you are so inclined.

Starter Secondary Type Results

The votes are in (again), and it seems like we have a definitive winner! The type combinations for the Starter final forms will be...

Grass/Fairy, Fire/Dragon, and Water/Steel!

Now before I open up the submissions, there's one last, LAST matter to attend to... A few people have expressed interest in the Fire starter being part Flying-type, since it is based on an aerial creature. Additionally, from a gameplay perspective, having a Dragon-type too early would be a bit broken. So I was thinking to solve both issues by having the Fire Starter start out as a Fire/Flying type before becoming Fire/Dragon. Since a Starter Pokémon can only change its type once, this would result in a Fire/Flying -> Fire/Flying -> Fire/Dragon evolution chain.

I'll open up this question until tonight, and once we have the matter decided, we can open up submissions tomorrow.

Would you like to have the Fire Starter be typed as Fire/Flying -> Fire/Flying -> Fire/Dragon? If not, what would you like to suggest as an alternative?

Okay, I've tallied up the votes, and it's a four way tie! This calls for a second round of voting to determine which type triangle we shall use. Again, as a reminder, our Starters will be as follows:

If we assume the Fire/Flying:

Fire/Flying>Grass/Fighting>Water/Ice might work…

But let’s get abstract.  Electric could represent thunderstorms…

Fire/Electric <> Grass/Ground <>Water/(free choice since Water > Ground, & Water < Electric).  

Maybe Water/Dark, Water/Poison, really lots of potential.

MOD: I'm not allowing all three Starters to have the same secondary type, unfortunately. The others look good, though - for the Electric/Ground/??? system, I think Water/Ice works well because it gives it an additional advantage against the Grass and Ground types.
