"I think we're going to need a two bedroom," Alex looks from the laptop to the baby next to her on the bench, a small smile appearing, "Right? You need your own room." She adjusts the blanket on the child.

"I think we're going to need a two bedroom," Alex looks from the laptop to the baby next to her on the bench, a small smile appearing, "Right? You need your own room." She adjusts the blanket on the child.
"It's hard to pack when you don't know how long you'll be gone."
Struck silent on the bench, all Alex could do was nod her head as though the person on the other end of the phone could see her. She was holding her breath, tears threatening to fall from her eyes. "...Yes, I ... und--understand," the words had to be forced out, "...I'll be there. Thank you." She was looking down but not at anything. It was like she was in some sort of trance. She felt the weight on the phone on her lap from sliding out of her hand. This could not be happening. Not him. Anyone but him.
This where I say surprise bitch or just expect the parade I never did get?
"I'm not awake yet, so you're going to have to say that again."
"Ash?"
"Are you here?"
"Am I interrupting?"
Mnm
"She looks like a tasty little thing."
