the waves were totally not bringing it. most days, the waves were so nice that yumi could actually get a flip in at least once. today, though, something about the moon was not giving in. there were hardly any waves at all and definitely nothing she could surf her shortboard on. so, she took out the longboard, but even out on the water, it was less like longboarding and more like paddle boarding. refusing to get out of the water, she instead decided to just lie on her board and go with the waves. instead of hanging ten, she was hanging on the edge of a nap. she rocked with the waves, ready to paddle back to the beach later if she needed. sadly, it seemed, the waves even pushed her home before she was ready. on her little ride, her starfish-speed ride, someone else entered the beach scene. yumi blinked, bored, only following them with her eyes because there was nothing else to see. it started normal and then very quickly became. . . that. her eyes widened. oh, she just had to see what the hell that stranger was doing, why they were doing it, and why did they want to do it right in front of her! it always shocked yumi that beach-goers never seemed to notice or consider that surfers can also see them while they’re back on land. . . the water slowly brought her closer, but she did not want to ruin whatever they were up to or whatever break down they were having, so she paddled to the side while keeping an eye on them. she thought she had a better chance of catching them if she got onto the sand first and then walked.
