Dota 2 Standard Carry/ Farmer Starting Item Purchases
Early game purchases can be really important in shaping the rest of a match in Dota 2. This post is intended for newbies and not experienced players, though if you also find it helpful as a new way of starting off by all means use it.
So you start out with 625 gold if you didn't randomise your hero and this is the starting build I've found that works the best for any strength or agility carry or farm heavy hero.
1 Set of Tangos - 125 Gold
2 Iron Branches - 106 Gold
Regardless of which hero you are playing you'll want to have some form of health regeneration in order to keep yourself in lane for longer, allowing you to gain more exp and gold and protect you from early game ganks.
The stout shield I've found is a very useful damage blocking item in the early game which can get you out of sticky situations and make you generally feel a lot safer in a lane against heroes you haven't necessarily played against before.
The stout shield can be built into a Vanguard for strength heroes to give them greater amounts of health and HP regen in the mid game. The vanguard is a pretty good item to consider when you're trying to build a tanky hero.
For agility characters the Poor Man's Shield is a good early game item which will grant additional agility making the hero's attack speed and armour increase to some degree as well as the amount of damage their right clicks do to opponents as the Poor Man's is adding attribute points to the hero's primary attribute of Agility. A Poor Man's can also tide you over until you can afford bigger and better protective items i.e. I keep a PMS (yes I know) on my Slark until I can start building an Assault Cuirass as armour is better in the late game because the amount of damage that is negated becomes negligible.
Iron Branches finish out these starting items because they give some needed attribute points that will tide you over for a while until you can get the slightly more expensive items such as Slippers of Agility when building a Poor Man's as they'll give you slightly improved damage output which will make last hitting a little easier.
Branches are also important for building a Magic Wand which can be a very useful item during the midgame as the wand charges will give you an emergency source of health and mana for when you need them in a sticky situation. A magic wand will be your friend when you're playing strength and agility heroes because they usually have pretty low mana pools compared to intelligence heroes, heroes like Slark especially who have powerful abilities that require sizeable chunks of their mana pools can mean sometimes you'll miss out on a gank because you want to conserve your mana but with a magic wand you don't have to feel quite so conservative and can just dive into enemy characters and kill them before replenishing your mana with ease
I hope you found this useful, I will probably write a starting item set for supports and remember
If you're playing Spirit Breaker... DO NOT BUY BOOTS FIRST, this goes for any hero. DO NOT BUY BOOTS IMMEDIATELY. They cost a large chunk of your gold and you'll be useless in the early game. The early game is really important for the rest of the game because if the enemy team is shutting you down because you made the wrong purchases early on the chances are that they are going to win the game. Before you buy boots, make sure that you can hold your own in your lane first because you may find that you need to grab a survivability item first
