when i imagine others asking me why i continue to do well with my work, the word that takes the top of the list is shame. and if i think about it, it makes so much sense to function around shame. i think shame makes you a little decent. take shame away from the equation and the world becomes morally lawless.

here are ways i think shame makes you a decent teacher:

you do not want to be a babbling idiot in front of your students

shame nags you to plan your lessons well

you’re ashamed to be the butt of the joke among students

you don’t want to be remembered as the teacher who did not teach

etc.
