It was another medical conference. A night filled with notable guest speakers and honourees. Stephen Vincent Strange was one of those: a recipient of the year’s award for services in the neurosurgical field. His reputation of taking on tricky procedures was definitely preceding him, and the award was just one of many he would receive that year. Along with such fame and accomplishment came the arrogance to match, but most of the people he met ( almost all of them female ) didn’t mind. In fact, the swagger was part of the initially appealing package that was Doctor Strange.
When he walked into the room that night, decked out in a Tom Ford tuxedo and a shiny Rolex watch, he knew everyone in the room was looking at him. There were a handful of professional colleagues and acquaintances from the Metro General Hospital, and there were a few new faces. He worked the room as always, smiling at the older surgeons and talking to them about what could be done to improve their craft. As eager as he was to improve his work, he also wanted to be the one to forward those innovative ideas.
Basically, he made the event about him.
There was one person in the room who didn’t seem taken in by his attitude. Malie Hewahewa was the newest addition to the surgery floor in the hospital. She was a stunner, but Stephen never pursued a woman for long. Especially someone who blatantly refused his advances. He knew a lost cause when he saw one. The only reason he acknowledged her presence was because of the tall, leggy beauty she was standing beside. He knew Malie had six sisters, but he never bothered to learn their names.
And the woman she was with didn’t look like her at all. Her black dress hugged her body in all the right places, and her heels just set off the entire outfit. With his champagne glass in hand, he excused himself and walked over to the pair.
“Malie Hewahewa. You didn’t tell me you decided to come.
I would have driven you here myself.”
His smile was brief, and he shifted his focus on the woman beside her. Stephen held out his hand for her to shake.
“But I don’t believe we’ve met. Stephen Strange. I’m a...distant
colleague of Malie’s.”
