Indiana is another somewhat reclusive and introverted Midwestern State.
Other States (colonies at the time) became aware of her after the Britain’s win during the Seven Years War. She was very young and so the British Colonies assumed she appeared around that time, ignoring the fact that Mississippi had mentioned her a few times when trading, and Louisiana had met her once or twice prior to the area being Ceded to the UK. However, no one paid her much attention until they went out to check on the avatars the might exist post their wining the Revolutionary war. Indiana was names the first of the new Territories and she was admitted as the 19th state in 1816.
She was eager to prove herself an actual civilized state and not just a frontier, but she was not (and still is not) overly good at managing money and by 1841 had nearly bankrupted herself. Others came and helped her enact major financial reforms in her new Constitution of 1851.
Other state’s currently associate her with extreme Conservative views, but while she can be one of the more fundamentalist state’s, she is not on good terms with most of the others, except Oklahoma.
She burned that bridge so to speak during the Civil War and early when she was one of the chief Northern State’s working against slavery, and in fact was a key state on the Underground Railroad to the point that one of her cities, Newport at the time, and not Fountain City, was known as the Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad. She has a disdain from the former slave state’s that she retains to this day, even though they are the most often aligned with the rest of her religious views.
By the time of the Civil War, she was the fourth largest in population giving her important political power. Her abolitionist leaning also assured she was the first of the Western State’s to mobilize for was and she had her people in nearly every major engagement.
That said, while she is not the most open minded state toward the other LGBT state’s, she is also not as closed minded as they think she is, and is currently wrestling with her religious views versus her strong belief in individual rights and freedoms. This leads her to (unexpectedly to most) supporting the LGBT state’s when it comes to laws and right, even while still privately disagreeing with them. Unfortunately, the actions of some of her State’s own leaders his given her a reputation that she is finding hard to shake no matter what she does.
She is very proud that Limestone from her state can be seen in the Empire State building, Pentagon, and National Cathedral in Washington DC, and she especially loves to remind New York of this fact and the time New York cam to ask her for her exceptional limestone. New York is usually highly annoyed by Indiana.
Aside from the well-known love of fast cars, she also enjoys crime novels (and now crime shows). She finds them very exciting, and during Prohibition she could often be found bugging Illinois, New York, or Texas, for gang related crime stories. Se still loves these stories to this day.
She often has a soft spot for crooks, especially if they steal from the rich. She became very embittered with the wealthy during the Gilded Age, and tends to have no problem with taking money from the Wealthy.
However she is not so quick to redistribute it to welfare systems, because she has does not believe people can’t simply better themselves on their own, and thinks if they are not, it is laziness. The exception being obvious physical issues, especially when concerning War Veterans. She would happily tax the heck out of the rich to pay for Veteran care, but she is not so generous to others, especially with mental illness or “invisible” disabilities. Washington as tried several times to get through to her on this issue, to some success, but not a lot.
Her closest friends are Nebraska and Kansas and together they have created a joke cult called the Cult of the Corn specifically to terrify less rural states.
As mentioned she also gets along well with Oklahoma.

As you cna see, I changed her design a little. Her original one, with the ponytail had her looking too much like she should be related to Virginia, which she is not

So yeah, I got bored and decided to doodle some Coa y TX throughout the ages. It turned out just kinda sweet 'n fluffy 'n cute because I was in that kind of mood. The first set is really early missionary days. Texas was always running around, poking his nose in everything, and getting his friends in trouble. But it was always good fun and they had time to laugh about it.
Next to that, Coahuila is supposed to have a prickly pear flower in her hair that TX picked for her. I imagine he's hiding his hands behind his pack because they're covered in spikes and he doesn't want to get yelled at for being an idiot.
Under that, I had space and couldn't resist drawing a really, really young NM.
On the far right, the only thing with any semblance of historical significance. It's probably the early 1800's, and they're arguing about all the Americans Juan is starting to hang out with. They're supposed to be in their late teens or so, and god does TX look ridiculous! xD
The very bottom in present day NM and theoretical present day Coa. I think she looks a bit too young, she's suppsoed to look around TX's age (28 or so), or maybe a bit younger. But I'll figure it out as I do more research.
Btw I'm currently calling her Francesca for now. I'm sure I had a reason for that.]

The band he's talking about is from South Carolina, but shh! Maybe I'll draw him teaching him one day. I was listening to this recently, and hearing this part the first thought that popped into my head was Juan teaching someone how to dance. That's right, Texas dances. Just real country like ones, but still.
I wanted to draw Nadine in one of those cute country skirts, but the swing styles in TX seem to prefer pants. I wasn't sure what kind of buckle she'd have, so I just put her state flower on it. Kinda. Anyway, not sure what's up with their legs or apparent lack of height disparity, or poses for that matter. I was referencing a fairly unrealistic drawing, which might've have something to do with it. But it sure was fun, so enjoy!]
