The Governor's House at @snugharborccbg, built in 1847 and designed by #architect William Ranlett. The house was inhabited by the infamous Governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor, Thomas Melville. Thomas was the brother of Herman Melville, author of "Moby Dick." During Melville's tenure as governor, the organization flourished and Melville was responsible for a number of construction projects, including four major dormitories, two gatehouses, and a church tower. Building C at @snugharborccbg in Staten Island, #NewYork. It is one of five interlocking Greek Revival buildings at the site and are regarded as "the most ambitious moment of the classic revival in the United States" and the "most extraordinary" suite of Greek temple-style buildings in the country. Building C was built in 1833 and designed by Minard Lafever, a young architect who was born in #NewJersey in 1798 but spent most of his childhood in Upstate New York. He returned to New Jersey in 1824, living for four years in Newark before relocating to New York City in 1828.
