Alright, now you caught my full and undivided attention with STATERRA. I'm curious do you have a sort of beginning or introduction to the story in mind or is it sorta in a work in progress? If you don't mind me asking./

WELL SINCE YOU ASKED.........

honestly, i have the whole story figured out, but i need to edit/rework a lot of it because i made it in.... sixth grade. i was a very ambitious kid! so, technically, yes i have an introduction in mind, but also it kind of sucks and i need to work on it. i haven’t touched it in... probably years? but its one of my oldest real projects, so i’d love to get back into it again.

anyways enough of my rambling, onto the actual story intro!

it starts out focusing on geo, one of four gods who control the four elements. (think ATLA style) she’s busy living on a mountain, not-governing the people she’s in charge of, kind of just doing her own thing. she has a thing with avoiding responsibilities. then one day she gets a carrier pigeon, with a garbled message that something is wrong with the village at the base of the mountain.... and the game starts! along the way you learn more about the world, the gods, and how they got to be there in the first place.

i made a few comics about it like a WHILE ago, but they suck so im not going to link them here.

Background

- Both girls were born in a wooded village called Fernhollow, on the same day (Mara at midnight, Luci at high noon). Mara's birth caused a panic in the village, but nobody could do anything, as her father was the only blacksmith for miles around. Can't drive out one of your most valued community members.

- They met as young girls, under an oak tree on the outskirts of the village. Luci saw this strange, quiet girl sitting away from the other playing children, went "friend?" and started yapping to her about bugs or something. Mara was Very confused, but she went along with it. Now they're inseperable.

- They both grew up with some Heavy expectations. Even if the villagers never talked about it, the girls felt it. Luci was seen as their golden savior, while Mara was shunned aside and seen as a problem or a monster. Luci denies the idea that she's a hero entirely, but Mara could never shake the feeling that the townspeople are right about her.

- On their eighteenth birthday, an accident occurred; during the celebration, Mara's dark magic grew out of control, and when Luci rushed over to help, Mara's magic lashed out instinctively and hurt Luci. Before either one of them could do or say anything, the villagers panicked and chased Mara off into the woods, while Luci fainted from blood loss.

- In the present, Luci ran away from the village and is on a quest to find Mara. Not to fulfill the prophecy or whatever, but to ensure Mara that everything was okay.

About Luci:

- Luci is your textbook fantasy hero; skilled with a sword, an upbeat attitude, an intense need to help people, and a strong sense of justice. Only problem- she doesn't Want to be a hero if it means that her heroic deed to the world mean hurting her best friend. So she stubbornly decided "fuck that" and tries to live life as normally as possible.

- Luci's mother, a former knight turned guard of Fernhollow, trained Luci to protect the village when she was old enough, as well as the prophecy on the chance it actually came true. Because of this, Luci is well-versed in combat and healing magic. The armor and sword she has in the present was actually her mother's.

- She Hates it when people put her on a pedestal and treat her as some sort of hero for doing the bare minimum. She'd much rather be perceived based on the merit of her character than what some old prophecy paints her as.

- She loves Mara VERY MUCH. She'll defend and protect that girl until the end of her life. ("She is Not evil, she is simply strange and unusual!!") If she's given the opportunity, she'll give an entire rant about who Mara is to her and how amazing she actually is. She tried her best to change the village's perception of her friend, but the one thing she can't fight was the intense bias created by a centuries-old prophecy.

- Even then, she does hold a slight fear for Mara and what she's capable of. She's seen her friend lose control of her magic, and Luci has always been the one to clean up the mess afterwards. She tries not to let this fear influence her though; if she let herself think of her friend like everyone else does, she'd never forgive herself.

- Post-incident, her opinion on Mara never wavered; she knows that Mara never means to hurt anyone on purpose. Though on her quest to find Mara, helping others became a second priority. If given the choice to go after Mara or save a person's life, she'd probably choose Mara.

About Mara:

- Mara is Luci's complete opposite- soft-spoken, shy, bookish, and a bit weird. But if given the chance, you'll find that she's actually quite a kind and passionate girl, if a little short-tempered.

- After Mara's father was given the chance to keep and raise her within the village, he did the best he could do to make sure she was as well-adjusted as possible. He taught her about blacksmithing and metalworking, raised her with kindness and patience, anything he could think of that may avoid triggering the prophecy altogether.

- She grew up a bit isolated from other people (a mix of her own shyness + others' biases from prophecy), so she never quite learned how to socialize properly until Luci. Everyone (other than Luci) finds her offputting despite all her efforts to seem approachable.

- Being extremely accident-prone + easily ticked off + having little to no control over her magic just made others' perception of her worse; she's basically a ticking time-bomb in everyone's eyes. She's become a huge people-pleaser because of this; if she acts kind and good and perfect enough, they'll see she's not dangerous, right??? (nahh)

- She's lowkey jealous of how the villagers treat Luci compared to her. She hates feeling that way, because she loves Luci, so she bottled it up out of fear that it might make the one friend she has like her less. These repressed feelings contributed to her magic spiralling out of control leading up to the accident.

- Post-incident, Mara couldn't forgive herself for harming Luci, and ran away to avoid ever doing so again, jumping from town to town for a place to hide herself away. She's resigned herself to her fate as the monster everyone said she was, seeing any future mistreatment as fitting punishment for what she's done.

some art of guys from a story idea i'm working on. they are gods of a place called staterra. when they find a mortal they like, they grant them blessings.

going down the line:

Rubius is the god of industry and technology, basically a patron to the working class. His blessing bestows proficiency in blacksmithing, a deep understanding of machinery, and resistance to intense heat.

Chrysa is the goddess of nature, both flora and fauna. Her blessing includes elemental magic, the ability to communicate with wildlife, and a proficiency in farming and herbology.

Zoren is the god of emotions and the arts. Their blessing entails the abilities to create illusions and influence people's emotions, heightened charisma, as well as a talent for art, music, and theatrics.

Sophos is the god of knowledge, whether it's past, present or future. His blessing grants the gift of prophecy, a deepened knowledge of the universe, and the ability to see truth through layers of deceit.

Akror is the god of war and destruction. His blessing is increased physical strength, speed and endurance, mastery of wielding weaponry, and the ability to conjure weapons from thin air.

Armonia is the goddess of peace and healing. Her blessing allows the user to heal others and themselves, create magical barriers for protection, and to cast a calming aura over an area that can pacify hostile beings.
