Hi there! Love your art and staticweather. Do you have any thoughts regarding Vox potentially using his powers on Vincent? ꩜
Sincerely, a hypno enthusiast
first of all, i THANK YOU anon for enabling my staticweather /vincest delusions. second, i present to you a doodle:
vox def has the capability of hypnotizing vincent! he just needs to push the right buttons! (cough i hc his hypnosis thing is dependent on his target's willpower)
but THEN that would mean vox needs to psychoanalyze his OWN weak spots to get vincent vulnerable enough.... which is unfortunately too meta for his ego </3
I love your art and the new Vox ship! Do you have any headcanons to share about them? What's their dynamic like? How do they feel about one another? Is it all psychological, maybe they only meet in Vincent's dreams, or waking delusions? No one else can see Vox, maybe he pushes Vincent to keep doing worse and worse things? I think the concept is intriguing and would love to explore the ship more~ feel free to yap about them!
PERSONAL HEADCANONS FOR VOXCEST/VINCEST/STATICWEATHER ?? YES ANON THANKYOU FOR ASKING!!!!! I LOVE PAST SELF X PRESENT SELF SO MUCH. IT SPEAKS TO ME as someone who spends so much time on internal work!! Anyway! I’m no writer & I DID NOT proofread this.. but here ya go:
To start things off, I don't have a solid "meet-cute" or any permanent explanation on how they met. But, I am deeply inclined to ship Pre-S2 finale Vox with Vincent in the VERY EARLY DAYS (Weatherman turned TV Show host). He isn't the "God of Entertainment" yet.
VINCENT… Man, there are a lot of loaded feelings festering in Vincent’s mind towards his future self. So, let's partition it into segments:
ANNOYANCE & RESENTMENT
Vincent is deeply annoyed with Vox. He finds his TV self loud, obnoxiously arrogant but deeply charming in a funny way—not that he'd admit it. He is an insecure narcissist himself! He knows better than to feed into Vox's already inflated ego.
ADMIRATION
Compared to Vincent, Vox has reached a level of success that seems almost like a fever dream. Massive control over the media? Owning souls? Far richer than he ever was? Although Current!Vox sees his success as "massive but there could be more"
Vincent would be the one to point out and say "mf I can't even see the top.", especially from where he is currently looking from. (Cough, weather boy & tv show host meet literal overlord cough)
He'd have a wide, panoramic view of Vox's success. It both intrigues his approval-ratings craving mind, but the magnitude of Vox’s influence would freak him tf out. (Consider this, he is STILL a weatherboy here. He had a gradual ascent to success. To be hit with the level of success that his future self has would make him want to sit down for a bit.)
DENIAL, DISCONNECT & FEAR
Vincent views Vox with a perpetual sense of disbelief. Vox acts like him, talks like him, thinks he is top shit—just like he does! But considering where Vox is positioned, Vincent couldn't fathom that HE is the same person as the Media Overlord.
Vincent's disbelief towards Vox's appearance: First of all, why the fuck does he have a TV for a head? Sure he has a love for TV, a cinephile if you will. But can't his afterlife form be less.. on the nose? (He does not know how Sinner Demons get their form, nor do I think Vox would tell him how he dies).
I truly believe Vincent would hold some form of resentment towards Vox, stemming from the fact that he finds Vox's entire existence jarring. He is facing himself in all his flawed glory; who he is and what kind of man he could be. And honestly? He doesn't like it. Dare I say, he is even AFRAID of completely processing it.
Speaking of fear, Vincent would probably be hypervigilant of Vox's capability of UNALIVING him. Vox is a 7ft tall demon—a whole ass overlord. Vincent would likely do his best to balance his genuine, disapproving thoughts, and “fawning” behavior towards Vox. Although Vincent has his grievances, he is wise enough to be extra careful with not setting Vox off for real. Vincent would NOT want to be a subservient bitch to his future self.
One of Vincent's main concerns towards Vox would be: Vox seems so fundamentally broken in his eyes. He cannot reconcile that HE, Vincent Whittman, had reached the depths of depravity (AND PATHETICNESS) he hasn't even considered yet.
In fact, he is detached from the future enough to see the situation from afar: Vox -> Obsessed with Alastor -> Causes Vox immense distress.
In other words, Vincent CAN OBJECTIVELY SEE that Vox’s obsession with Alastor has broken him. Vincent, who still has his skyscraper ego intact, is repulsed by the idea that he could ever become that "pathetic" or "obsessed."
Vincent would also develop an underlying, intense fear of the future. Unlike normal canon-timeline Vincent, he'd actually start being more careful with his murders, decisions, etc. Vincent meeting Vox made him develop fear of being the same way.
Overall, Vincent is the "Alpha" version of the ego—untarnished by Hell but fueled by mid-century arrogance. His disgust at Vox’s obsession with Alastor is a form of self-preservation; he REFUSES to believe he could ever lose his composure like that.
Now, for VOX to VINCENT..
Current Vox is insecure, but he would LOVE to boast about his achievements to his past self. Let's be real here.
Vox's would approach his past self like a mentor to a pupil. He'd find Vincent attractive, of course. Vox would be proud, nostalgic and reminiscing of his glory days as a human.
And he'd definitely would want to fuck him because of his narcissistic autoeroticism.
But here’s the kicker: Vox would want to "fix" Vincent in his pre-God of Entertainment state.
Why would he? Vox would say he just wants to optimize his life, micromanaging his old brand to be even better with his newer perspectives, multimedia knowledge, innovation, etc.
But the deep cut would be: He is backseat-gaming his own life to erase the insecurities and failures that define his current existence.
I personally don't think Vox would resent his past self. Mild annoyance? Yes. I'd feel like he'd be more inclined to "helicopter parent" how Vincent SHOULD do things based on what he knows now. If there is any resentment, it would be because Vincent isn't listening to him. However, that resentment would be mitigated with "Ah, of course I'd reject that. He's me, after all!"
Vox would DEFINITELY think he knows more about Vincent than Vincent does. Vincent IS Vox from the past. Of course he should. Right?
He doesn't.
Vox has been shaped by Hell and the Vees; Vincent is still a man of his era (mid-20th century). Their worlds are too far apart as it stands.
Vox wouldn’t be fazed by Vincent’s rejections of his ideas, which I think would be a lot considering how… more inhuman Vox’s methods are compared to his human self (and Vincent is a serial killer lmao).
I like to think Vox sports a consistent “Yeah, that’s great and all, been there and done that, but THIS is better. Trust me.” mindset towards his past self. Even if Vincent were to be a brat, what could he really do against Vox? There is an obvious imbalance of power here, and Vox has nothing to lose in this situation.
SELF-LOVE? THE OTHER STUFF
Seems like a pipe dream, but it'll be VERY rare. I’d say this is more like pseudo-self-love than actual love.
Vox is a deeply insecure character and I don't think he would truly love himself in a healthy way. Vox views Vincent as a promising project he wants to optimize. Lots of critiques and "backseat gaming", in which Vincent would find infuriating.
INTIMACY : If Vox does get a little touchy (WHICH HE WOULD—He has power, this is HIMSELF. Valentino likely introduced him to a myriad of kinks atp; self-cest wouldn't be anything new to him), Vincent would react with a mix of disgust and repressed arousal. I think with Vincent and his bisexuality, he'd "test the waters" and claim he is just experimenting. (Vox, still a closeted bisexual himself, would pretend not to hear Vincent talk about his own internalized homophobia.)
I don't think Vincent would act like how CRT!Vox was to Alastor. He is a white man from the early-to-mid 20th century. He has a massive ego. Any form of attraction/homosexuality is MASKED. FULL STOP. (I’m choosing this headcanon because I like the idea of Vincent’s pride always getting in the way from true vulnerability, even if it’s with himself.)
Also! Vincent’s relatively fresh wounds of homophobic prejudice + Vox's still closeted bisexuality? It would slow this ship down by a LOTTTT.
I do believe they fuck first before any "feelings" are ever developed.. if there any besides lust and self-validation loops—
(Vincent would have fun at the moment but would have the post-nut regret. However, he works around it by considering it a guilty pleasure since, uh, yeah. Man is a bisexual through and through)
I view this ship in a very “Both of them are so fundamentally different but they are still the same person.”
And BECAUSE they are the same person—even if things get hostile: They’d subconsciously be inclined to "nurture” each other with what they already know. They both think they know what's best for each other—but they are more likely confused deep down.
IS THIS A HEALTHY DYNAMIC/SHIP?
Nooooo...... due to the feedback loop of ego and dysfunctional mentorship that Vincent did not ask for? Nah, nah. They definitely need a third party—COUGH THERAPY—if this were to work without any ups and downs (I mean, we are still talking about Vox.. def has ups and downs).
In my mind, Vox ultimately has his own flavor of care that he wants to impose on his past self. He wants the best for himself and doesn’t linger on WHY he wants the best for himself. He just does.. even if his advice is deeply skewed and riddled with moral failure.
And Vincent, seeing his future self's... state, would want to steer Vox to a less, disagreeable direction. Even if it's fruitless, and even if he, deep down, doesn't want anything to do with who he’ll become.
ANNNDDD that is enough brainworms to solidify it as a favorite ship of mine.
Sorry for any typos and grammar mistakes! I want to chuck this out as fast as I could LOL
