Like I'm not saying I'm not grateful for this offer (even though I'm still not sure I will apply for it) but it all seems also pretty stupid and kinda from like a bad dystopian movie

Don’t be afraid to cry it out. I’ve cried countless times by this point, I’ll definitely cry some more in the future, and I always feel better afterwards. It drains the tension out of you. Once that stress is washed away, once you let that emotion out, you can go back to appreciating the wonderful opportunity you’ve got. Don’t feel bad about it. No one can be strong all the time.
If you feel down, stay away from social media. One thing I’ve realised by now is that seeing my friends and family getting together, celebrating and going out is not particularly helpful. Nothing feels worse than missing people, opening your Instagram and seeing those exact people hanging out. At that moment – and it’s a pretty vulnerable moment already – it hits you that if you didn’t leave, you’d very probably be in that photo too. It makes you remember all the other events you’ve missed, all the birthdays, pub runs, random encounters, trips – for me, the worst ones are summer camp meetings, simply because there are so many amazing memories attached to them. And ‘lo and behold, the situation is suddenly sixty times worse.
It hurts, sure it does, and not just mentally. Your throat goes tight; your chest feels as if there’s a house sitting on it. Your eyes water and your hands get shaky and your focus is shot to hell. Food tastes wrong, you’re thirsty and not thirsty at the same time, both restless and tired. A pro-tip: Just give up for the day if you can. I usually get chocolate and ice cream, maybe some junk food, and watch an animated movie because those always end well (so if you’ve ever seen me watching Disney with a blanket and some snacks, yeah, that was a rough day, thanks for being nice).
