Let’s get this out the way now. During Eid al Adha, the slaughter of any animal is a ritual sacrifice to please a god.

Whether you believe Allah directly ordered ibrahim to slaughter Ismail or ibrahim dreamt it, the end result is the same: Abraham slaughtered an animal in connection with pleasing Allah.

Replacing a human sacrifice with an animal sacrifice doesn’t do much in terms of religion. There is still bloodshed and life is still systematically ended for the maintainence of universal order. 

Just because you’re not shouting “I GIVE YOUR HOLY PRESENCE THIS BLOOD FOR A BETTER HARVEST UNTIL THE NEXT OFFERING” in a dark, dusty room sprayed with chicken blood while wearing a hemp thobe doesn’t mean you’re not doing for Allah. In other words, just because you don’t think it’s an offering doesn’t mean it doesn’t operate as one. 

If you DON’T slaughter a sheep/goat, you would be sinning, or at least lacking in points with Allah. If you DON’T slaughter a specific kind of animal (sheep/goat) during a specific time frame, then it doesn’t count! It’s not any old animal slaughtered for a chicken burger meal down the local chippie, it’s an animal chosen to be sacrificed and consumed in honour of a particular god and concept of worship to that god. 

I hate when Muslims keep insisitng that it’s not even remotely related to animal sacrifice in other, non monothiestic, religions. No. Your religion isn’t that original or special. Stay mad about it.
