(Code-switching + Race) You have the aspect of the code-switch in Cassius. The importance that the moment he tosses off his Blackness, the thing he personally held onto (He says to his friend "You don't get to decide what's Black and what isn't" and "Italians ain't Black" RIGHT BEFORE the "white voice") and that he continues to try to hold onto for the rest of the movie, is when he starts making money. It's when he can actually start to go up the ranks. It's when he has to put himself as close to whiteness as possible in order to actually get shit done.
(What's in a Name?) The meaning of Cassius Green, aka Cash. Our protaganist, the main character, his nickname is CASH. He and his gf have "Is Cash green?" "Yeah, Cassius Green"!! His nickname becomes what he strives for, it's what everyone knows him for, they know him as a sellout, who's basically only cash. When he's a Power Caller, he starts paying off loans and debt, he gets a new car, a new place, nice things, and then his social life goes to shit. Cash is green, but Cash is also lonely. Cash has become cash. He cashed himself out.
(His head injury partway through) THE HEAD INJURY! Coke-and-a-smile bitch is so important to the movie! Head injuries are usually a symbol that something is wrong with the character (see: HIM), but it's the head injury where everything seems to go SO WRONG for him. He meets Steve Lift, he manages to get on "I Got The Shit Kicked Out of Me" because of that video, everyone checks on him because of his bandage, he wears it for so long and there's always that red mark on it, the head injury was a wakeup call for him to finally get off his ass
(The Picture) The picture. The Picture. THE FUCKING PICTURE!!! There's a picture of some family member that's never elaborate on that Cassius owns. He has it at his residence, and he has a photocopy at his job. When you see it initially, the man is just leaning on the car. Neutral smile. And then he ebbs and flows with what's going on Cash's life. When he get sa sale, he smiles. When he breaks up with gf, he looks pained. At the end, when Cash has finally cast off the shackles of RegalView and returned to a more humble life, he's jumping for joy in the picture
(Sorry To Bother You) ALSO ALSO I will never shut up about how much I love the way it shows Cash as a telemarketer calling people. He IS being transported into their home, into their lives, where they're at in that particular moment, so seeing him DROP INTO their homes while they're doing anything and everything is so AWESOME
