On the Other Side of the Hospital.
Adrien rushed into reception and stopped the first nurse he saw. He explained who he was and her eyes glazed over. He froze.. He knew that look. He’s seen it before when his wife died.
“No. He can’t be.”
“I’m sorry Mr Carter. I’m so sorry, your son coded twice in the ambulance and by the time he got here his heart was too weak to handle the surgery. He died on the table.”
Adrien couldn’t hold himself up, he felt sick. His heart was racing and he felt as if he might explode. What had he done... “No.. please no.” He was wracked with guilt. Rhys was dead and he had died thinking his father hated him, he felt disgusted with himself how could he treat him like that... he noticed how hard Rhys tried.. of course he did but he just could never look past what had happened. And now his son was dead and he felt responsible. Maybe if he had paid more attention he might not have gotten hurt. If he had been a better father. Adrien dropped to the floor sobbing uncontrollably, he couldn’t help it..he didn’t care that there were people. The nurse held him as his sobs vibrated through her. To lose a child was the worst thing a parent could imagine.
