SPIRITTALE PART 1

On the Other Side of the Hospital.
Adrien rushed into reception and stopped the first nurse he saw. He explained who he was and her eyes glazed over. He froze.. He knew that look. He’s seen it before when his wife died.
“No. He can’t be.”
“I’m sorry Mr Carter. I’m so sorry, your son coded twice in the ambulance and by the time he got here his heart was too weak to handle the surgery. He died on the table.”
Adrien couldn’t hold himself up, he felt sick. His heart was racing and he felt as if he might explode. What had he done... “No.. please no.” He was wracked with guilt. Rhys was dead and he had died thinking his father hated him, he felt disgusted with himself how could he treat him like that... he noticed how hard Rhys tried.. of course he did but he just could never look past what had happened. And now his son was dead and he felt responsible. Maybe if he had paid more attention he might not have gotten hurt. If he had been a better father. Adrien dropped to the floor sobbing uncontrollably, he couldn’t help it..he didn’t care that there were people. The nurse held him as his sobs vibrated through her. To lose a child was the worst thing a parent could imagine.
Summer came and went.
The day before Thalia officially returned to school, she went to Visit Rhys, she visited him a lot.
[Sighs] “I miss you. You know i’m going back to School tomorrow and I have to pretend to be ok. I’m used to it now.. I pretend a lot… If i don’t, then Mum or Dad start to fuss and I can’t stand it. The only person who still acts normal around me is Ronnie. But then again she’s like 2, everyone else treats me like I’m a fragile glass shell about to break and it drives me nuts. [sigh] You know… i’m mad at you… that day at the park just before the accident you told me… you weren’t leaving me. But you did. I know it’s not your fault but, you said you weren’t leaving.
Anyway, the guy who crashed into us, went to court yesterday he was given 16 years for Vehicular Manslaughter. Dad was livid, he said it wasn’t enough blah blah, I tuned him out.. I don’t really care. It’s not gonna bring you back, so why even bother? College applications are soon, and I don’t know if i still want to go.. I mean part of me wants to, then I can start afresh but then i wouldn’t be able to see you anymore… Its funny you would probably say “That’s fucken stupid Princess of course you’re going.” Ha.. I miss you.”
Yes, of course I remember, how could I forget? How you feel? And though you were my first time A new feel It won't ever get old, not in my soul Not in my spirit, keep it alive We'll go down this road 'Til it turns from color to black and white
Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead) 'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (ooh, ooh)
Frank Ocean ‘thinkin bout you’
Thalia was in her coma for 2 weeks and her parents waited patiently at her side. When she woke up she was disoriented and could barely remember anything but as she gained full consciousness she remembered the crash.
“Mum?” she rasped.
Kaia grabbed her hand but didn’t say anything.
“Everything hurts...”
“I know sweetheart. The Dr said you’re going to be sore for a while...”
“Ok. What about Rhys..? Is he ok?”
Kaia frowned, Rhys was the guy who had been on the bike with her daughter.. her boyfriend, he didn’t make it from what she’d heard from the doctors. His funeral was the week just gone.. She and Teddy had attended. And they had been even more grateful after the funeral that they did not have to bury their daughter. Kaia didn’t know what to say or how to tell her but she needed to know.
Kaia lifted off the chair and moved in close to her daughter.
“I’m so sorry sweetheart... Rhys didn’t make it” she said gently, hoping it would soften the blow.
“What...no. No. You’re lying.” Thalia looked at her mum... and realised she was telling the truth.
“I WANT TO SEE HIM. LET ME SEE HIM PLEASE.”
Kaia held her down as she fought to get up.
“LET ME GO. I NEED TO SEE HIM.” Kaia held her as she cried and screamed out, sobbing as she held her daughter.
Thalia chopped it all off and dyed her hair, all her life Thalia had blonde hair everyone knew her for her long blonde hair, maybe now she’d cut it and dyed it she’d be a different Thalia, no longer aw poor Thalia whose boyfriend died in a motorcycle crash. No she was a new Thalia.
Well...she was new Thalia on the outside. But she still felt the same.
Thalia looked at her reflection and sighed a little disappointed, “Oh well, i’ll get used to it.” For some stupid reason in that moment she actually felt that changing her hair would make her feel different, like a new woman. But it didn’t.
Graduation Day - Part III

Thalia laughed a genuine laugh “Yeah... I remember, you, me and Vi. [Sigh] I miss those times”
“Me too...”
“Seriously though... what’s up with the smoking? That’s not you. You’re an athlete pretty sure you need to keep your lungs healthy so you can keep up?”
“I’m not an athlete anymore Levi... my arm hurts too much if i do it for too long”
“Oh?..that sucks. Still doesn’t mean you need to smoke.”
“Stop judging me... please. It makes me feel better.”
“That’s bull T.. I’m not gonna tell Vi only if you promise you’re gonna stop.”
Thalia sighed and rolled her eyes, “Yeah, whatever i’ll stop. Just promise you won’t tell her she won’t let me live it down if you tell her, you know how mother hen she gets!”
Levi chuckled “yeah..alright. But I mean it Thalia... you have to stop.”
“Okay.”
They sat there watching the clouds for a bit talking, catching up! It was nice to be friends again, she hadn’t realised how much she’d missed Levi and his friendship until now.
