Over a year had passed since Alfred and Sarah had run away from the little village in Transylvania. A year since the former student had arrived there with professor Abronsius, a year since Sarah had been invited to the midnight ball. A year since Alfred had realised that only leaving her home could make Sarah truly happy.
It had been a stressful year for Sarah. She had never travelled anywhere, and she was grateful that Alfred, who was so much more experienced, was there with her. They had made their way to Vienna first and on the way there, they had gotten married. At least for Sarah, it hadn’t been ot of love, and even Alfred had had a different reason in the first place; the two of them had tried to claim that they were siblings, but no one had believed them. They simply looked too different, and so a marriage had been the only option.
They were in Munich now, married. Everyone here knew them as Alfred and Sarah Reiher, a young and happy couple. It wasn’t even a lie, not anymore. While the two of them weren’t really together, they still got along wonderfully, and Sarah had found herself falling in love with her husband. With both of them having a job and Sarah feeling free for once, she could allow herself to give in to the crush that she had developed back in Transylvania. By now, she truly believed that she was ready to be Alfred’s wife in every way.
A small smile appeared on her lips as she looked over to Alfred, who was standing right next to her; he was cleaning the dishes, she was drying them with a little towel. Sarah was aware that this wasn’t typical; most husbands wouldn’t take care of the household like that. Alfred was simply incredibly sweet, lovely and kind, and the happiness she felt at this moment overwhelmed her so much that she simply stood on her tiptoes and placed a soft kiss on his cheek, close to the corner of his mouth.
