I like to think fang hunters/future libra members etc bonded & formed somewhere in Europe (around the reinherz name). A special forces team made for combating supernatural threats wouldn’t be stationary but always on the move on a global scale. On the other hand we have Daniel born & raised in NYC, living the most situated life can be.

I don’t know if you noticed in my work but i have a thing for contrast T_T like hopelessly… Before the collapse i like to think steven &most fang hunters are pretty miserable from being the outcasts of the normal world (LIKE THE X MEN ) . Daniel though fits perfectly as a normal guy in normal New york city, so I imagine he was a tad bit more bright & loving than he is now. New York flips over as do their personalities, whats normal is weird and whats weird becomes normal. Daniel loses his home & steven finds one  etc..

One day “libra” gets flown into NY to deal with whatever hell spawned there. The nypd are scattered a ways away from the disaster area to protect civilians. Ofc “vampires”“ are kept confidential from the local police, so they’re all under the assumption that libra is dealing with some real dangerous criminals. Both forces work collaboratively though & after the threat is contained the nypd throws a wrap up party to commemorate & welcome their guests. There Daniel confronts Steven with the intent of hooking up or emotional bro talk,either way they make a memorable time together. libra stays around nyc for a few weeks or so before moving on, dn&st fuck a lot   dn & st get to know each other well & say their bittersweet goodbyes

Years later they meet again in Hellsalem’s lot shortly after Klaus officially forms Libra

Tho In this au I think its harder to govern daniel’s distrust in steven unless it newly formed. maybe he felt betrayed from the withheld information during their first meeting? Finding out a dude you fucked&developed feelings for only to be backstabbed & can shoot ice out from his feet killing you instantly Would Be pretty shocking. And that’s not even getting into steven’s job description

idk but i thrive for EMO COP STUCK IN THE PAST & HIS SCUMMY BOYFRIEND WHO CARES ENOUGH TO HELP HIM MOVE ON , BUT SCUMMY BOYFRIEND HAS HIS OWN PROBLEMS & EMO COP HAS TO WORRY AND KEEP HIM SANE
