During his trek in the desert, where he couldn't recall anything after waking from the Lazarus Pit, Jason saw a mirage of a tall man in black who he came to associate with The Grim Reaper.
He would snap at him and yell at him that it wasn't his turn, and as consequence, motivated him to keep pushing forward even as his body began to shut down from dehydration.
He never questioned why the man had pointed black horns on his head or a bat symbol on his chest.
Warning: The Following Events May Be Considered Graphic
Ra’s al Ghul: -walking around my office, muttering quietly to myself while reading off a yellowing packet of parchment, several decades old-
Jason Todd: -body is being covered in red oils and sacrificed blood, body bindings beginning to be bound around the feet-
Talia al Ghul: -as the car pulls up the house I go for the door and find it locked; looking to the front of the car, I connect eyes with my driver- Am I not permitted to enter my own home?
Driver: Your father did request you spend more time out, Madam.
Talia al Ghul: My father also frequently asks my opinion on the staff. How would you like me to say that you are doing? -after a moment the door clicks unlock- Thank you. That will be all. -I get out and head for the front door-
Jason Todd: -binding goes up legs and slowly, the remainder of the body; the bodies of the sacrifices are being tossed into a dispense pit-
Ra's al Ghul: -takes a breath, steeling my expression and walking out of my office, immediately calling out orders to the various people walking around the Pit; everything had to perfect for tonight-
Jason Todd: -the disciples deem the body ready and call out for some of the men to come and carry the body down to the pit-
Talia al Ghul: -entering the home and find a few servants milling around there seems to be an air of something going on. Stopping the nearest one I look to her- Where is my father?
Servant: He prepares for the ceremony, Madam.
Talia al Ghul: -my brow furrows- Ceremony? –the servant woman suddenly knows that she shouldn't have said- What ceremony?
Jason Todd: -is on a bedding-like-tray held up by disciples, hoods over their heads, covering half their face in shadows; the gate to a service elevator like contraption shuts after they board, then begins to lower them below the house-
Ra's al Ghul: -leaning over the railing overlooking the Pit, clouds of pungent smoke floating up around me- Open the skylight, the Pit must be exposed to moonlight before the body is lowered!
Disciples: -wordlessly move towards the chains, rotating their locks so as to make the large marble slabs hovering above them, part slowly, the moonlight filtering in, the blue light swallowed up almost immediately by the eerie unnatural light of the green essence of the pit-
Hooded men: -carry the body off of the elevator, just as the disciples move back towards the pit-
Ra's al Ghul: -raises my arms, looking up at the sky; below me, the Pit is bubbling ever more furiously- Begin the chants! -Below me, my hooded disciples start up the strings of words to start the ceremony-
Hooded men: -locate the body on the platform that will be raised, securing the boy before raising him up towards the location above the pit-
Ra's al Ghul: -joins in with the chanters, my voice raising louder and louder over the rest, closing my eyes, feeling the ancient power rising through the cavern-
Jason Todd: -body is now located directly above the pit, unholy, hushed and distorted whispers begin to run through the cave, aiding the chants to go higher-
Talia al Ghul: -bursting into the chamber- What is the meaning of this?! -I yell over the chanting going down from the entrance to the pit- Father! YOU were the one to take the boy’s body?! I knew you had plans in motion but this?
Ra's al Ghul: -eyes snap open, turning to look at my daughter, standing furious in front of me- Enough, daughter! This is not the time.
Talia al Ghul: Not the time? Look at what you are about to do! The fact that you actually think that this will bring him to us is almost laughable.
Ra's al Ghul: -glances quickly up to the skylight, where some clouds are quickly approaching to cover the moon, then turns back to you, my expression outraged- Laughable? -steps closer to you- What do you think you're saying?
Talia al Ghul: -hesitates at your anger but I stand firm- Father you stole this boy's body. He cared for him as he cares for all of them. You can't really believe that this will bring him closer to us.
Ra's al Ghul: -takes another step closer- Have you not seen, daughter? Have you not seen what the boy's death did to the Detective? -narrows my eyes- He was /broken/. For weeks and weeks.
Talia al Ghul: Yes...yes I saw that but why not offer this to him? -I ask hating the way Bruce had looked even at the manor. He still wasn't over it-
Ra's al Ghul: -shakes my head sadly- His pride blinds him, even more so than his pain. -looks at you through half-lidded eyes- Do you believe he would agree, daughter?
Ra's al Ghul: -turns to face the form above us, wrapped in white bandages, patterned with ancient symbols- But you know it is right. -my voice is quiet- Don't you, daughter? This is what is best.
Talia al Ghul: -closes my eyes- He will hate us all the more. But...yes...I do.
Jason Todd: -body is now halfway down the motion; the Lazarus’s surface is all but still-
Ra's al Ghul: He may hate us in the beginning... -I say, nodding slowly- But once the boy is restored to him... -watches the body lower carefully; a revival so late after death had never been attempted before; if it succeeded...-
Talia al Ghul: Can he be restored? Have we ever tried a resurrection like this?
Ra's al Ghul: -the lie easily passes through my lips, tinted with both concern and hope- Do not worry, daughter. -looks at you, my expression taut with eager anticipation- This is a moment to celebrate.
Talia al Ghul: If the boy is restored I will agree, Father...but I fear he will not...
Jason Todd: -chains creak as the temperature rises, the platform that held the body glowed green/gold from the reflection of light-
Ra's al Ghul: -for the first time since you arrived, my impatience breaks through the surface; my gloved hand flashes out in your direction, with the intent to silence- Quiet, daughter! -my eyes widen slightly- It is time. -I look down at the attendants on the pulley- Release the body!
Talia al Ghul: -I do go quiet at my father’s heed, watching on, feeling the knot in my stomach only get worse-
Jason Todd: -two disciples break away from the formation and go the chain's network, suddenly pulling a lever to make two of the chains give way on the right side. The stiff body falters for a second before it falls into the pits-
Jason Todd: -the pit suddenly becomes calm on the surface, no sight of the body-
Ra's al Ghul: -leans over the railing, gripping it so tight that my knuckles are a stark white, my eyes searching the surface-
Disciples: -falter in their chant, falling silent soon after, staring into the pit-
Talia al Ghul: -watches the pit closely holding my breath. If Father was wrong this would be nothing but more pain for my beloved-
Jason Todd: -there is no sound beyond the faint drops of moisture that fall from the ceiling-
Ra's al Ghul: -as the seconds pass by agonizingly, my eyes comb every inch of the Pit, looking for something, a hand, a breath, a mere bubble, to signal life come once again-
Talia al Ghul: Father.... -I say gently knowing that this would upset you-
Ubu: -approaches from within the shadows now done with disposing the bodies, frowning- My liege...
Ra's al Ghul: -whirls around to face both of you, my face tight with anger- I do not want pity, not from the likes of you! -turns to face the Pit once again, nearly bent in half over the railing, still searching-
Disciples: -begin to quietly murmur to each other, wondering if this was all for naught and the sacrifice of two of them was useless-
Talia al Ghul: Father it has failed. -I say gently though knowing you would still snap at me-
Ra's al Ghul: No. -the whisper barely escapes me in anger- The moon was full. Everything was correct. The chants. The symbols. -turns away from the Pit slowly- How could it have failed?
Ubu: -motions henchmen to begin to escort the Disciples away from the pit with hand motions, muttering in Arabic-
Talia al Ghul: -goes to you and puts my hand on your shoulder- Father…he was dead for too long.
Ra's al Ghul: -glances at your hand on my shoulder for a moment, then shrugs it off, beginning to move back towards my office- …Make sure the Pit is properly sealed, daughter.
Jason Todd: -small bubble makes it way to the surface, popping just as the faint whispers return to the cave-
Talia al Ghul: -watching you go I sigh softly; looking back to the pit just as the bubble comes to surface, my eyes widen but had I seen correctly?-
Jason Todd: -suddenly more bubbles begin to form, surfacing and popping only to be replaced with more-
Ra's al Ghul: -blind to everything but my disappointment, I continue my sullen walk to my office, oblivious-
Talia al Ghul: Father! -I call sharply going to the edge of the pit- Father, come back!
Jason Todd: -soon the surface begins to move, much as if the water was boiling hot, and steam begins to rise from within; the whispers tone intensifies-
Ra's al Ghul: -the shout snaps me back into focus; I turn immediately, walking back to the railing, my eyes finding and focusing on the commotion below us-
Jason Todd: -the water begins to swirl, much like in a whirlpool motion, as the withered heart of the body within, suddenly begins to pump once, twice, and slowly picks up in rhythm-
Talia al Ghul: -backs up from the edge my eyes wide watching the surface not believing he was actually rising-
Jason Todd: -but I can help!- -this is the greatest day of my life- -begged for my life on those streets!- Help! Bruce!- Brothe-!-
Jason Todd: -something dark begins to move underneath the green waters-
Disciples: -begin to back off, some scared-
Ra's al Ghul: -my anticipation grows as the whirlpool glows and froths- You see, daughter? It was not too late for the boy -my hands grip the bar even tighter- He lives!
Jason Todd: -it' over joker!--You can't be serious! You need a Robin--he'll come back for me...-
Jason Todd: -limbs begin to twitch, body floating away from the platform which sinks further into the pit, dissolving-
Ra's al Ghul: -shouts at the attendants standing frozen at the edge of the pool- Open the skylight once again, you fools! The Pit needs moonlight! -my eyes immediately return to the dark shape under the surface-
Jason Todd: -limbs begin to move, the body becoming limp, no longer with rigor mortis-
Talia al Ghul: -watches on in anticipation and slight fear. Would the child really be able to come back?-
Ra's al Ghul: -leans forward, nearly in danger of throwing myself over the railing, calling out in a booming voice- Jason Todd! Awaken! Step out of the Lazarus Pit, reborn!
Jason Todd: -the pit and whispers seems to fall silent at your words, then suddenly my body swirls and moves sharply under the water's surface until it emerges, my no longer small body emitting a blood curling scream-
Talia al Ghul: -steps back at the boy screaming. All I could think was that this would not be what Bruce would want-
Jason Todd: -eyes snap open, looking around, vision going black every other blink; soon begin to float down, no surface underneath my feet, and I begin to attempt to stay afloat; I notice an edge and make my way to it, screaming in agony as my arms and legs protest-
Ra's al Ghul: -my eyes widen slightly at the screams; I had both experienced and watched others’ experience the gift of life from the Lazarus Pit, and I had never seen anything like this-
Jason Todd: -make my way to the edge and scramble to get up, legs buckling under my weight, yells of panic escaping me when I saw someone before me-
Ra's al Ghul: -paces quickly, watching the events proceed, shouting at the attendants who scattered before the wrapped body- Stop him! You fools! Stop him immediately!
Jason Todd: -when someone manages to put a hand on me, I wretch free and draw back an arm only to sucker punch him; I look down in bewilderment at my arm and scream , scratching at my head as it pulsates in pain; Had to get out, had to escape…; suddenly I turn to run out, searching for a way out here-
Talia al Ghul: -stumbles back out of the way- What is happening? -I try to call over his screams-
Ra's al Ghul: -walks quickly towards the stairs to the lower chamber, drawing my sword as I walked, intending to stop him myself- We cannot let it escape!
Jason Todd: -maneuver around people, /needing/ to get away, to breath, to make the pain stop; I duck and hit at the limbs extended towards me only to stop as I stares up into the barrel of a gun pointed at me-
Ubu: My Liege! Shall I shoot?
Talia al Ghul: No! -I shout- Do not harm him!
Ra's al Ghul: -narrows my eyes, throwing a glance back at Talia- No gunshots, Ubu, take him down by force. -approaching quickly-
Jason Todd: -Need to get out; Pain; escape; Panicking I lunge at the beast of a man blocking my way, gun going off barely grazing my arm but I don't stop as I scramble down the now unblocked hall, blood dripping in my wake-
Talia al Ghul: -I feel relief at Father saying to not shoot. Jason attacking Ubu and the gun going off causes me to falter hearing some of the servants panic at the noise as well-
Ra's al Ghul: -even as I pursue the creature, I can't help but once again marvel at the powers of the Lazarus Pit; the boy was older, stronger, and even faster then before-
Jason Todd: -run brokenly, turning into dead ends then double back halls, until guards stand at the end of a doorway, making me fall to my knees as I stops myself; the blood pools under me-
Talia al Ghul: -follows as well if only to make sure the boy isn't harmed. He was practically feral now yes but this was my Father's doing-
Jason Todd: -look around, now blocked from either side; eyes were wide, wrappings fallen from the burned skin, tuffs of hair sticking sickly out of unhealthy patches of skin on the scalp- ah...argh! – my jaw bobbed and fell uselessly; I used the heels of my hands to hit at my head in desperation, in pain as I stared at those around me-
Ra's al Ghul: -pulls around the corner to see the boy deadlocked between myself and guards standing in front of the door; carefully, I approach, observing how the boy is standing much taller than before- Jason, know yourself.
Talia al Ghul: -I come upon the scene shortly watching the boy's movements closely-
Ubu: -arrive behind the others, glaring at the boy-
Jason Todd: -head slowly rotates towards them, small whimpers escaping my mouth; I suddenly jerk and grab at a nearby gun, awkwardly holding-
Guards: -raise their guns, clicking off safeties-
Talia al Ghul: Do not shoot him! -I snap at the guards glaring at them all-
Jason Todd: -rotate the gun until the barrel rests under my chin, making me grunt and incoherently mumble-
Ra's al Ghul: -eyes widen- No! Boy! Stop immediately! -takes a step forward, then stops myself-
Jason Todd: -jars the gun closer, tears manifesting in his eyes-
Talia al Ghul: -my eyes widen- Jason don't! -I call- He wouldn't want you to do this! -I call knowing I wouldn't have to specify to the boy-
Jason Todd: -take a step back, still holding the gun-
Ra's al Ghul: -grinds my teeth together, looking at the guards standing behind him, waiting a moment before angrily waving them away from the door- Move, you fools!
Jason Todd: -flinch at the voice, rotating to face the guards blocking me, and yells escape me, taking a step towards them
Guards: -gun still aimed, they shift until there is room down the middle of their stance of men for the boy to walk through-
Ra's al Ghul: -grips the hilt of my sword painfully tight; I cannot believe the boy had enough presence of mind to pull such a trick and lead to his escape; his rebirth was a scientific and cosmic miracle! Never before had someone been reanimated so late after death-
Jason Todd: -scoots slowly down the opened path, leaving dirtied and bloodied footprints in my wake; once I was by the double doors, I dropped the gun, pushed against them and ran through them, an alarm system immediately going off-
Ra's al Ghul: -runs after the boy a second after he ran through the door, catching the collar of one of the guards, nearly strangling him as I throw him before me, shouting at him to follow as well-
Jason Todd: -eventually I hit a chain link fence too hard and fall face first into the sandy ground but recover; glance back at the sounds and with a strangled scream of my own, I begin to scramble up the fence-
Talia al Ghul: -trying to follow after I watch as the boy desperately escapes hearing his screams- Forgive me, Beloved... -but I know that when Bruce finds out about this there will be no forgiveness-
Jason Todd: -make it to the top and fall off, thankfully on the opposite side; after a swift recovery, I get up and run aimlessly away from them and into the desert-
Ra's al Ghul: -as I run out of the underground facility, I watch the boy disappear across the desert; I call back Ubu with a single shout, sheathing my sword, accepting the defeat with cold anger- We will track him down once more. -turns to face Talia, back in the hallway- After all, where else will he go, but back home?
Kori peered curiously at the masked hero in front of her. He looked familiar. It was obvious that he's a Robin, but there was something else about him. Familiar. "Hello," she greeted. "I'm Koriand'r, but just Kori will do. I assume that you're Robin?"
The girl glanced up at the sound. Alexandria knew that her adoptive father and older siblings were busy doing something, though no one wanted to share the exact details with her. It had only been a few months since her adoption. Alex looked in that direction curiously to see who was home. "Hello?" she called.
