#brucecockburn #stealingfire #1984 Bruce Cockburn is a #Canadian artist who has been recording since 1970. He’s huge in #Canada, but this album in particular gained a lot of attention in the United States, with @u2 even making reference to Cockburn‘s lyrics on their album #rattleandhum on the #song #godpart3. I remember it got decent airplay at the time in the# US. Cockburn is a classically trained guitarist who has written music in a number of genres, including #folk (early on and then very late), #jazz, #jazzfusion, #jazzrock, #country, and #rock. He sometimes sang in #French and included spoken word #poetry with his music. I would say he peaked in the late 1990s with compositions that combined his all his previous influences on the #albums #thecharityofnight and #breakfastinneworleansdinnerintimbuktu. I would say his four essential albums are his folk album #dancinginthedragonsjaws 1979, those two albums from the late 90s, and this one, but if you can randomly pick up anything and you like interesting music, pick it up no matter what it is. He released a box set with remastered versions of his first album and those two albums from the late 90s on colored vinyl. Pick it up. Have to thank my friend Chris Maxwell @cmaxman for introducing me to Bruce Cockburn. He also introduced me to #u2.
