It hurts to see Ed in pain, and Stede has seen far too much of it in recent days.

From his patched-up settee, a concerned frown slants its way across Stede’s face as Ed sits up in the bed nook with visible discomfort. Ed is backlit by the early morning light where he sits closest to the windows.

The heel of Ed’s left hand presses to his forehead, a sharp, elongated hiss slicing through his teeth.

“Ed?” Stede is prompted into action immediately, shrinking the space between them with a few steps to perch at the edge of the bed. He quickly helps Ed get more settled against the cushions and pillows, asking, “What’s wrong?”
