Before Steve can stop himself, he places the back of his hand against Tony’s forehead. It’s what his mother used to do when he was younger and frailer, when the common cold was his greatest enemy and his asthma so severe he had fits at the slightest provocation. Bucky likes to tell Steve he’s a mother hen, but Steve remembers how reassuring even the slightest touch felt when he was unwell. Even if it means a bit of teasing, Steve will gladly offer anyone the simple comfort.

all right normally I don't complain about what other people put in fic, because it's a) not my problem and b) futile but homophobic Steve Rogers is actually the worst thing and it's not only because canonically, in the comics, Steve is on record as telling his gay friend he's not a freak or a monster, and being fully supportive of Wiccan and Hulkling as a couple, because lol canon no1curr, but because Steve clearly does not give a crap about censorious Forties mores, he gives no shits about Peggy being a woman and bossing him around, he may be a little awkward about sex in the first person but he clearly isn't bothered by other people having it (Bucky, Howard), so on and so forth-- and even if you decide to ignore that, I just--in what part of Steve's character do you ever see him being capable of that kind of feeling, where in the complicated mix of things that is Steve Rogers can you see the slightest possibility that Steve would have a problem with two people being in love because society thinks it's a bad idea. I just feel like you have to fundamentally misunderstand Steve Rogers in some way to write him as homophobic. and I'm not saying this isn't in any way personally biased, because yes I am a queer woman and yes obviously the thought that Steve Rogers, my Captain America, would be homophobic actually personally hurts me but as a writer I just don't see how you could get that from Steve. At all. and that is my problem. /rant sorry
