Prompt: "Or you can just pretend that this never happened."
Time never stops for anyone, one step after another, people move forward, and little by little, the memories fade away. He walks slowly as he could, hoping that the process could slower with his pace, thinking that he could somehow escape this torment in store for him. He focuses on a single face in his head, and he could feel his stressed pulses soothing for a bit.
It was a wrong decision to think about her, because now all he could think was of how he was able to survive without her, and above all, who is going to take care of her? The question kept nagging him.
She is a strong woman, she doesn’t need any saving. A voice said inside his head, and he agreed to it. Yet, he denied the fact that she had to be alone because of him.
It’s not fair on her.
He told himself.
But, at least he will be out of all this in one year. And then, he could go back to her.
His heart ached thinking about the price of everything. The blood on his soul which could never be washed off.
“I heard you made some modifications in the deal, brother,” Damon mentioned in the car heading outside the limits of Mystic Falls.
Stefan remained silent, he was in no mood to talk.
“You really think you will be able survive after turning your humanity on after one year of monstrous killings?” asked Damon.
“I will have to.”
“The ripper never easily gets tamed, and you know it.”
“It will be different this time,” Stefan hoped.
“And what’s so different this time?”
One name- Caroline Forbes.
He didn’t have to explain it to someone who wasn’t going to understand anything at the moment.
He is a different ripper now.
The mantra was on loop in his head. He will come back, for Caroline. This time it’s different because of her, because his love for her is stronger than any power, and he has faith in it.
“I can’t change what’s going to happen, but to hope that in the end it will be fine,” answered Stefan.
“Or you can just pretend that this never happened,” replied Damon.
He had been pretending for a very long time, and every time he does that, he falls in the pit of an endless limbo.
Either he had to forget her, or he had to make sure to be in power over the monster.
He chose the later, because forgetting her wasn’t an option.
