Verse: rewrite the stars

Season 5 canon divergence written and developed with @bunnyblooded - After bonding with her on her death bed Stefan felt guilty about Katherine's death and all the time wasted. He seeks out the help of some powerful witches with the intention to resurrect Katherine.

Not being everyone's favourite person, the cost of rezing her is a lot, to be expected.

In order for the witches to agree, Katherine had to be brought back with no memories of her life before, but instead a fabricated story of a much tamer nature. She would know nothing of vampires, werewolves, or even her own heritage as a traveler witch. She would be living the life of normal unepic proportions.

However that was not the only cost, Stefan had to agree to give up his immortality, and all of his memories as well. Unknowingly agreeing to be a case study for the witches involved. What are they studying? The Doppelganger draw. Can you erase the bond? They tried, and then set them in different areas to see if they would ever be brought together again. Prince and the pauper but make it a love story.

So they bring back Katherine, re-writing her history without taking away any part of it that made her who she was. She was still SA'd at 16, had her baby out of wed lock, her alcoholic abusive father gave the baby up for adoption and sent Katherine away. The exiled doppelganger found herself a few states over where she met her "ex fiancé" a wealthy business type with a lot of power and a lot of reach. She called off the engagement, scared of him and his abusive tenancies, she ran. He tracked her down for years, forcing her to change her name and lay low. From Katerina Petrova, to Katherine Pierce. She currently works as a waitress in a little diner, supporting herself the best she can while battling her ptsd and anxiety.

Stefan a similar mirrored story to his history.

Now the two are left to their own devices, while the witches wait and watch to see if they'll once again be drawn together by fate.

"Whether or not I eat what you cook completely depends on what you make. Obviously I'm not going to eat something I dont like, but if you're insinuating- S T E F A N, that I would let a home cooked Salvatore meal go to waste, due to petulance." She raised a brow at him as if daring to continue that accusation in his head. "Then you are wrong and I am wounded you think I could and would be such a brat."

As if he doesnt have more than a handful of examples to base his thought process on- but those don't count. For... reasons.

She can have a kiss.

Just one kiss...

One kiss is more than enough and yet never enough at the same time. That is the power that Stefan had over her. He could sate every need in her being with a touch, a kiss, and yet some how always leave her wanting- no NEEDING more of him.

She may not be a blood addict, but she is addicted to him in every way possible. She craves him, NEEDS him. Every fiber of her being aches for him. Its uncontrollable. Trust me, shes tried. Hes a liability, a weakness, something exploitable to her that she would be much safer without! He makes her take risks she knows she shouldnt, simply because she can't be away from him for too long. It's painful.

Despite how much it hurts, seeing him with other people- not the sex. Katherine doesn't care about sex it doesn't equal love for her. Seeing him fall in love with someone else... that- that is what drew her out of hiding after 145 years. Spending every second watching him with someone else is like a knife to the heart that he just keeps twisting. And she just can't let go...

Only. One. Kiss.

It doesn't seem like a lot. Hardly anything. But to the girl who loves Stefan more than anything, who longs for him... who craves his love... who just wants him to look at her the way he used to... one kiss is everything.

She tries to keep it off her face, the sheer volume of emotion shes feeling. The intensity of it. The pathetic look of gratefulness the thing she want's to hide the most, but its no secret. He wouldn't have offered it to her if he didn't know that she wanted it so badly.

She loves him. She has always loved him. For 145 years, she has loved him, and she will continue to do so no matter what happens between them.

It's a pity kiss, and she knows it, a large part of her hates herself for the embarrassment it is to accept it so needy... but she'd rather look pathetic than miss out on a reminder of what it feels like to be ok- to feel right, and safe, and at home. Because that's what kissing Stefan felt like. Happiness.

So before he could change his mind, Katherine claimed what had been offered.

A moment of happiness, of feeling complete...

under the guise of a single kiss.
