As the crowd slowly started to leave, Lily could feel herself growing more and more exhausted by the minute. She lost count of all the people that had come up to wish her condolences, and despite the fact that she was sure most of them were incredibly sincere, the emotional aspect took it’s toll. The looks of pity were by far the worst, and Lily had to stop herself from snapping a couple of times, knowing that now wasn’t the time nor the place to lose her composure. The ceremony itself had gone off without a hitch, and Lily had held it together, save for a few silent tears.
At the back of her mind, she couldn’t help but worry about the mission that was taking place. Having gotten the tip from Helena, Lily could only hope that what they were doing would be enough. If they could mitigate the damage and potentially capture a few of their members, Lily would take it as a win. However, despite the fact that the Order was her priority, this had to come first. Honoring James was currently the most important she could do at this moment. Lily knew that eventually she would have to let herself grieve, and that running on auto pilot couldn’t last, but that didn’t stop her from trying for the time being.
Standing alone at his grave, Lily put down the single tiger lily against his headstone, a couple of stray tears running down. Her voice came out just above a whisper as she spoke, “You always teased that everyone loved you, but you should have seen all the people here for you today. I hope you know how loved you are, James Potter, and I hope you know that I’ll never stop missing you. Always, my love.”
Lily heard footsteps approaching, and she turned around to give something akin to a smile to the on comer. “Paying your respects too?” she asked, her voice thick with a coat of tears.
