We used the Makey Makey device to learn about circuits today in STEMed Up. We explored a banana piano, pinball controllers, and a game show button. Then we played Family Feud using the game show button.

Our theme at STEMed Up on Monday was "Pirate Adventure".
The kids each built their own pirate ship. We then tested each ship to see how much treasure it could hold before it sank.
Our next experiment was to build planks using Keva blocks. The challenge required the kids to see how far out over the ocean their plank could go while still holding a LEGO pirate.

In STEMed Up this week we explored geodes. We broke open geodes to see what's inside, then created a watercolor version.

We had an awesome STEM class this week to learn about the upcoming solar eclipse. Thank you to Michael Parkhill, Texas Wing, NASA educator & IIAS Scientist - Astronaut!
In STEMed Up this week, the kids learned about sharks and played a coding game. They had to code their sharks to move around the board. Their goal was to eat the most fish using only 3 moves per turn.

This week in STEMed Up the kids participated in minute-to-win-it drills to see if they were fast enough to beat any Guinness World Records. They all had quick skills but not fast enough!

Today's STEMed Up class practiced drills that could get them into the Guinness World Record Book. They were really fast but not quite fast enough to beat any records. With practice they can get there! -Who can build a Mr. Potato Head the fastest? -Who can build a right angle tower the fastest using 20 LEGO blocks? -Who can build the largest cup tower in 30 seconds? -Who can build the tallest domino stack in 30 seconds? -Who can stand on one foot the longest? -Who can balance a book on their head the longest? We also had a prize drawing for those who attended. Congratulations to our winner! Also thanks to the Friends of Cooke County Library for sponsoring this drawing! #STEMedUp #CCLstemedup #EducateEngageEnrich
