Can probably be read without much knowledge of the books (it spoils one character-related twist in Book 1, which is revealed fairly early, and you find out someone gets hurt at some point, which is not much of a spoiler in this series).

More comparatively new-reader-friendly fic for this series, this one set during book 1. (It does spoil a few things lightly, but nothing major.)

At last, a fic that is okay to read if you haven't read the books! It's set a few years pre-series and, while a few references might be spoilery in context, there isn't anything that should jump out, and nothing is spoiled beyond a few minor aspects of the first book.
