Your art is beautiful in every way and just inspires me so much to get off my lazy ass and draw and makes me want to learn so much more. I got a question, before you began to draw with the tablet did you do all your drawings using traditional media? I mean I got a tablet around a year ago and I am so keen to use it but I always feel so unprepared and I'm not sure why? It's not scary, but like, nerve racking (idk?¿) to start drawing using completely different technology and yeahhh

thank you! yeah back then i used pencils and pens. like ballpoint pens or black markers, i love those. i was a poor student and couldn’t afford a tablet, but i knew that to get into the profession i wanted i’d have to start learning digital painting so i borrowed money from my mum and went to buy the biggest tablet i could find. still using it today. paid back my mum and have been earning a living through it too. /glances fondly at the tablet-chan/ nowadays i sketch digitally. always want to go back to pencil and pen but i just don’t have the time.

i can understand the dread of having to readapt to a new thing, but i’m happy to say that using a tablet isn’t as daunting as it sounds. it’s basically a piece of paper you scribble on, the hardest part probably is having to watch the screen instead of your hand. it takes a little getting used to but if your tablet has good sensitivity and there’s no real lagging involved, it’s pretty intuitive and easy to get the hang of, providing you allow frequent first uses to practice with it, personalizing the settings and making sure you’re working at a calibration you’re most comfortable with.

if i may, i suggest to warm up you try drawing on your tablet like when you’re sketching on paper. do a whatever doodle first and then fill it out a bit and if you like where things are going, start adding details and stuff. don’t put pressure on yourself to finish or to ART the fuck out of the day with this new piece of tech the whippersnappers are raving about. sometimes a doodle becomes a full-blown drawing but other times it stays a doodle and that’s cool too. just do many doodles to get things rolling and let everything else come naturally.

Not sure if this has ever been ased before, but how many layers do you usually end up with for your art? I know artists who do the outlines and then the shading/colouring on different layers, but from your previous tutorial it seems like it's one base layer and then one overlay only? (which I think I'll have to hate you before because HOW)

yep doodles usually have one layer (sketch refined to fin) + overlay flattened into a single layer to paint over details on

in the case where a background is involved i usually do the same thing with the BG, then make separate layer for object, then flatten when done

patience is a must as sculpting a sketch blob into a discernible shape takes more time than making a new layer and tracing the sketch, but otherwise just super straightforward stuff, nothing fancy (◕‿◕✿)
