The Scruffs - So You Wanna Be A Big Star (1975)
That Memphis power pop band the Scruffs were influenced by Big Star is pretty obvious when you listen to their only LP Wanna Meet the Scruffs from 1978. This fabulous tribute to Alex Chilton's band was recorded somewhere between 1974-1976, and finally released in 1998. Thanks to Whatsthesound for posting the video and bringing this tune to my attention.

The Scruffs were power pop pals of BIg Star, led by Stephen Burns. They recorded their first LP, Wanna Meet the Scruffs? in 1977, but this song was recorded in the years previous. Good stufff
