I am raging so fucking hard right now. So this cop got called to help a man who was suicidal. He is a marine veteran and done a tour in Afghanistan. Now, the military is actually taught how to assess a situation and determine the actual level of threat, not just shoot anyone who looks a little suspicious. The suicidal guy had a gun and this officer used his training to determine the man was not a threat and chose to NOT shoot. Two more hero cops show up and shoot the guy in the fucking head and the good cops gets fired for NOT killing him. I can't even wrap my brain around this. I can't believe I live in a country that punishes the good guy and rewards the racist fucking murderers. There is a go fund me set up for this cop if you feel the need to donate. I did.

What The Actual Fuck

This is Ronald D. Williams Jr., a 23-year-old African-American. Police in West Virginia were called to deal with him during a “domestic incident.” The first officer to arrive on the scene was Stephen Mader, a former Marine. He happens to be white.

Williams had a gun in his hand, but he wasn’t pointing it at anyone. Mader assessed the situation, using his training as both a Marine and a police officer, and determined that Williams did not constitute an immediate threat. He told Williams to put down the gun. Williams replied, “Just shoot me.” Mader realized that this was an attempt at ”suicide by cop,” and started trying to deescalate the situation.

Unfortunately, at this point two more police officers (also white) showed up and shot Williams in the back of the head, killing him. It turned out Mader had been right, though: the gun wasn’t even loaded.

Now, this isn’t one of my usual “statistic” posts. Williams had a gun, and he was waving it around. The officers had no real reason to think the gun wasn’t loaded, so they were justified in shooting Williams. No one thinks otherwise.

What happened next, though, defies belief:

The Police Chief fired Mader for NOT shooting Williams.

Seriously.

Mader was terminated because he supposedly “failed to eliminate a threat” and “put two officers in danger.”

The “threat” was the man with the empty gun, whom Mader had correctly assessed as not a real threat.

So now it’s not enough for the police to go around shooting African-Americans without considering whether deadly force is justified. No, now the police can be fired if they DON’T use deadly force right away. Even if it turns out that there is no reason for it.
