VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED. "Rarely has depravity been presented this bluntly — and poetically." - Boulder Weekly In 2011, Stephen McCoy picked…
Hey, I edited this documentary! It’s finally available to rent :,) It’d mean a lot if you checked it out, I’m really proud of it. My friend Stephen started shooting it in 2010, so it’s been 10 years of blood, sweat, and more blood on his end.
Shot over 5 years & edited down from 80+ hours of footage, beginning in his senior year of high school, and ending with him homeless and addicted to heroin; swept up in the tide of the opioid crisis. We got into contact with Stephen after finding a 20 second clip he had uploaded online years earlier. At the time he was still working on the film, editing on iMovie and living in a homeless shelter. We flew him out to California, where he shared a small apartment with my friend (and the film's producer) Kevin for several months.
We got into festivals & won awards, but release since has been difficult. Amazon Prime blocked release at the last minute, citing “offensive content” and labeling the film as pornographic, which on one hand is hilarious, but on the other really kinda sucks.
Also, if we’re mutuals but you’re broke or somethin, let me know! Just want people to watch it. Great for both quarantines & parties.
Write Brain Presents Nightcrawlers (2018): For 5 years, Stephen McCoy attempted to document nocturnal street life in the subterranean parts of downtown Boston; People…
I know I never post about myself on here, but in case anyone’s interested, I just finished work on a documentary and we’re submitting to festivals now. Myself and my friends in our art collective flew out the director from a homeless shelter in Boston, where he had abandoned work on a documentary that he shot for 5 years. He lived with my friend for 2 months, and from there we worked with him to finish the film he set out to make. I took over as the editor and a producer of the project.
Over the course of these 5 years, our friend Stephen fell into addiction, something that he initially only wished to document. I’ve attached a trailer, again, if anyone’s interested. (If you guys are, I can start posting updates or something. We’ll see. I’m not used to posting at all)
Just a warning in case anyone’s sensitive to certain types of material, there is some heroin use in the trailer. It’s hard to tell from the trailer, but I promise you that this material was treated with extreme care in the film. Thanks if any of you watch it, I’m really happy with how it turned out.
