“The guy in front of him was gorgeous, dedicated, caring and good. Both of them had a similar problem with caring about others too much and not caring about themselves enough, which meant Derek was also one of the very few people who really understood that side of Stiles. Seeing Derek like this, being able to celebrate his birthday with him, made Stiles want.

He was definitely selfish in this situation, but it was almost out of his control. His body moved out of its own accord as he stepped closer and leaned forward. He had the presence of mind to move slowly, give Derek time to back out, to flinch, to show any sign he didn’t want this, but nothing like that happened. He let Stiles lean the rest of the way until their lips connected.

Where their first kiss, the one initiated by Derek, was urgent and desperate, and worst of all - over very quickly, this one was almost the complete opposite. Stiles was hesitant and unsure, he felt selfish for going for it, but Derek soon responded. He moved closer to Stiles, his hands rising to grab Stiles’ face, and returned the kiss just as slowly and carefully.

They kissed as if they were walking on thin ice, as if one wrong move could throw them into icy depths, yet at the same time they kept up like they couldn’t stop. At some point Stiles raised his own hands to grab Derek’s forearms to ground himself since he could literally feel himself shaking from feeling overwhelmed. He felt Derek’s fingers dig into his cheeks with desperation, in complete contrast with how cautiously his lips moved against Stiles’.

After what felt like an eternity and a millisecond simultaneously, Stiles broke the kiss, moving back just enough to stop their lips from touching. 

“Happy birthday,” he breathed against Derek’s lips before he took a full step back, letting the werewolf’s hands drop from where they were holding him.

He felt Derek’s eyes on him the whole way back to the house.”

Summary:  Stiles is discharged from the FBI for his role in the Hale-Argent warehouse sting; Derek goes to Arlington, VA to drive back to Beacon Hills with him after he finally admits his feelings.  As Derek and Stiles road trip across the United States their new relationship develops.  These moments are interspersed with canon Sterek moments told from Derek’s perspective.

Once he’d deposited Stiles with the EMTs, Rafael had found him to make sure he and Stiles were unharmed, updating them on the identities of the men they’d apprehended.  One of the men was rather high up in the organization and, according to Rafael, looked like he wanted to talk.  All in all, the sting was considered a success.

After Rafeal left to tend to other matters, Derek let his attention stray back to Stiles, who was sitting with a huge dressing on his toe on the end of a gurney, glaring at Derek, looking like someone had run over his dog.  He considered Derek for a moment before he rasped, “You didn’t even say goodbye.”

Derek immediately went from feeling pumped up on a job well done to small, guilty, and cowardly.  He opened his mouth, but he didn’t know what to say.

Stiles' eyes were shining when he said, “I just don’t understand how you could have left for two years without saying anything at all to me.  Do I really mean that little to you?”

“Stiles, that’s not - you mean so much to me!  I just had to leave,” he pleaded, emphasizing, “I had to leave there.”

An agent had been standing at the periphery of the conversation, listening with interest to everything Stiles and Derek were saying.

“You left me, Derek,” Stiles said again, sounding broken.

“I know.  I’m sorry,” Derek answered.

The agent who had been listening interrupted, saying, “Stilinski, is there something that you neglected to inform us about when you requested this assignment?”

Stiles at least had the decency to look contrite. “There may be a thing or two, yes,” he said, not elaborating further.

The agent nodded, his face grave, before he turned his attention to Stiles’ foot. “The EMT said it was a severe abrasion.  Take two days rest and then I expect to hear from you.  It seems we have some things to discuss.”

Lydia sighs, leaning forward like she’s about to whisper a secret, but not letting her voice falter. “Stiles, I love you and I respect that you’ve needed time to deal with...you know, I don’t even know what, which is a bit ridiculous as I’m your best friend and--”

“You’re not my best friend,” Stiles singsongs.

“--I still have no idea why you’ve been acting less than thrilled to be back where there is working internet, Playstations and--”

He murmurs, “I don’t even--I use a PC for gaming, Lydia. If you were my best friend you’d--”

“Running tap water--”

“The spring water on the island was delicious.”

She barrels through, “--but instead, you’ve been moping and, Stiles. I didn’t want to bring this up, but your recent vlogs have been terrible.”

“That’s just rude and below the belt and--"

She sits back as the waiter approaches and slides the fresh mimosa in front of Stiles, who immediately brings it to his lips and takes a sip. Make that two sips. Big ones. But not gulps, no.

Hopefully I will have a pornarific E/O Sunday Six as well if I can get out of bed.
