The Rolling Stones' 18th studio album was released on 24 March 1986.

Produced by Steve Lillywhite, most of the album was recorded piecemeal, with few members of the band in the studio at the same time due to increasing conflict within the group, especially between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Jagger was absent for much of the recording, with Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Bill Wyman (as well as guests including Jimmy Cliff, Don Covay, Ivan Neville, Jimmy Page, Ian Stewart, Tom Waits, and Bobby Womack) recording the instrumentals, with Jagger providing vocals later. Charlie Watts' involvement was also limited due to substance abuse and Anton Fig and Steve Jordan played drums on some tracks.

Despite mostly negative reviews, Dirty Work sold more than 1 million copies and peaked at #4 in the US and the UK.
