The Land of Nod original art by Jay Stephens. From Sin Comics #1, the one with the real bandage pasted down on Nod’s belly button on the cover. 

I hope I still have that copy. I was working in Jim Hanley’s Universe when this came out and liked the comic so much I wrote Jay and asked about buying art from him. I think this is the first page of interior comic art I ever bought, and if I recall correctly, Jay told me I was the first person to buy a page of his. 

Years later I wrote an introduction for his first Land of Nod collection, he let Sarah run several of his great Oddville strips in Mad Planet and in 2000 he drew the Super Friends segment of World’s Funnest for me. We couldn’t find anyone to do it and after Sarah and I ran into one another in L.A. at the Annie Awards (we were up for a Space Ghost script, I think he was up for his work on Tuttenstein? Jay’s done a bunch of animation projects, his own Jetcat and the Secret Saturdays, etc) we got to talking and he said he was tinkering with a Toth animation style for some character designs he was doing. He sent them to me and they were dead-on and so we had our Super Friends artist. He did a great job on the comic and I was really happy to have him in there. 

Jay’s a great guy and a super talent, we last saw him at TCAF a few years back and he drew a Chick and Dee sketch for Emily (so did Steve Manale, another great guy/cartoonist from Canada). if you’re unfamiliar with Jay’s work you should hunt it all down. Great, swell, fun cartoon stuff.
